Mary Gladys Odom, 92, of Stanton, died on Wednesday, December 17, 2003, in a Stanton hospital. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM Saturday, December 20, 2003 at the First Baptist Church of Stanton with Rev. Waymon Swopes pastor of Greenwood Baptist Church, officiating. Interment will follow at Evergreen Cemetery in Stanton. She was born on January 23, 1911, in St. Augustine County, Texas and married Loyd A. Odom on December 8, 1929 in Carlsbad, New Mexico. He preceded her in death on March 21, 1968. Mrs. Odom was baptized in the San Bernard River near Sweeny, Texas in 1923. Her family moved to Martin County from East Texas in 1926. She and her husband, Loyd moved to Callahan County, Texas for a short time and then moved back to Martin County in 1935. She spent many years answering the phone and dispatching trucks for their trucking company. She enjoyed sewing and made many beautiful quilts for her family. She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Stanton. Survivors include her daughter & son-in-law, Velma Dean and Bob McMillan of Stanton; two sisters, Artelia Turner of San Angelo, Ruby Ridgway of Richardson; one brother, Henry Minton of Odessa; a daughter-in-law, Patsy Cook of Stanton; 3 granddaughters; 6 great grandchildren; 3 great great grandchildren. She was also preceded in death by her parents, her son, R.P. Odom, her daughter, Wanda Allene Odom, one grandson, Bobby Odom, three brothers, Johnny Minton, James Minton and George Minton .
