Mary Frances Hamilton Herndon, 87, of Midland, passed away Sunday, April 2, 2017. She was born December 18, 1929 in Nashville, Arkansas, the youngest of four children, to Ida and Carroll Edward Hamilton. She grew up in Arkansas until age 9 when her family moved to East Texas. She attended school in Mt. Vernon, Texas and graduated in 1946. She then attended Business College in Dallas. She worked in Dallas and moved to Abilene, Texas in 1950 where she worked in the oil industry as a secretary.Mary met and married Eldon Herndon in Abilene on April 15, 1953 and moved to Midland, where they resided their entire married life. She and Eldon were self-employed for several years in various businesses. She was a charter member of the Golf Course Road Church of Christ for 49 years and was active in teaching and participating in the church where she worked as a secretary for a short time. She and Eldon became members of the Fairmont Park Church of Christ in 2012.Mary is survived by her husband, Eldon of Midland; one son and daughter-in-law, Forrest and Kirsten Herndon and one grandson, Bryce Herndon, all of Abilene; two granddaughters, Brittni Herndon of Abilene and Lynzee Herndon of Austin; and two great granddaughters, Bailee and Kynzee.She was preceded in death by her parents, two brothers, one sister, and one daughter, Melissa Herndon.The viewing will be from 8:00 am to 9:00 pm, Tuesday, April 4, 2017 at Nalley-Pickle & Welch Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 pm, Wednesday, April 5, 2017 at Fairmont Park Church of Christ in Midland. Interment will follow at Resthaven Memorial Park.Pallbearers will be Art May, Nelson Patton, Frank Bartlett, Kent Gaultney, Dewitt Smith, and Eric Lewis. Honorary pallbearers will be the elders of Fairmont Park Church of Christ.Arrangements are under the direction of Nalley-Pickle & Welch Funeral Home & Crematory of Midland.
