Mary Elizabeth Fisher was born in Burke County, N.C. on April 27, 1911 to John Brittain and Sallie Rogers Brittain. She lived to the wonderful age of 103, passing from this life on January 15, 2015.At three, Mary was adopted by Lillie B. and Jacob E. Yoder. Mary Yoder spent her childhood in Roswell, N.M. while her father worked for the railroad. When Mary was a teenager, the family moved to Pampa, Texas and lived on a farm. In Pampa, Mary met the love of her life, Waldo H. Fisher, at a Sunday school partyMary and Waldo worked for Phillips Petroleum Company and spent most of their working life in the company town of Phillips, Texas; raising two children Beverly and Gary.Mary was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, and grandson, Lee Wise. She is survived by daughter Beverly Wise, husband Robert and their daughter Mary Wise; son Gary Fisher, wife Adelaide and their children Gary Fisher, Jr., wife Maureen, Katherine Cedeno, husband Randall; and son Scott Fisher. Mary is also survived by grand daughter-in-law Sue Wise, great grandchildren Mary Lauren Fisher, Michael and Thomas Cedeno, and Sara Wise, and great-great grandchild, Cayden Savage.Mary always told about a class project in Roswell where she was introduced to planting and growing vegetables. Mary knew immediately that gardening would be a lifelong hobby. She always had beautiful flower gardens with iris and roses. Her vegetable garden was her lifetime joy and was enjoyed by many. Mary was a marvelous seamstress, a wonderful cook and an avid knitter.Mary and Waldo retired to Zephyr, TX and lived an ideal retired life on a small acreage farm with a vegetable garden, an orchard, an apiary, and of course, many beautiful flowers. Mary and Waldo belonged to the Brownwood Country Club where they enjoyed playing golf and bridge.Mary’s last years were spent in Midland so she could be closer to family. The family would like to thank all those who were so kind to Mary in the Mabee Care Center and the Younger Alzheimer’s Center at Manor Park. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Zephyr United Methodist Church, PO Box 764, Zephyr, TX 76890-0764, or a charity of choice.A graveside service will be held at 3:00 pm, Monday, January 19, 2015 at Duren Cemetery in Mills Co., Texas.Arrangements are under the direction of Nalley-Pickle & Welch Funeral Home & Crematory.
