Mary Beth “Nan” Ingram, 88, went to Heaven on January 20, 2023. She was born on July 11, 1934 in Westbrook, Texas to John Wesley Schafer and Mary Thelma Schafer.
She grew up in the oilfields of West Texas, including McCamey and Otis Chalk. When she was young, she spent many happy hours playing in the mud, pretending to drill oil wells.
She graduated from Forsan High School in 1952. She was class president for three years, an officer in the Future Homemakers Association, and was voted best-all-around girl and football queen her senior year. She was a member of the basketball and volleyball teams, a cheerleader, and a member of the girls’ chorus.
Beth married her handsome “cowboy”, Clay Ingram, in Colorado City on June 27, 1952. They spent 57 years together raising cotton, cattle, kids and grandkids. They also worked together in the farm supply store and cottonseed delinter they owned. In later years, Beth was the secretary and bookkeeper for several family agricultural and oil and gas businesses. With all she did, though, her favorite title was that of homemaker. She made a home full of love and happy memories for Clay and their two children, Cherry and Craig.
They attended Trinity Baptist Church in Big Spring for many years, where Clay was a deacon, and she was an elementary Sunday school teacher. After moving to Midland in 2013 with her daughter and son-in-law, she attended Kelview Heights Baptist Church. She so loved the pastors, staff and people of Kelview. On the way home from church, she always said “those are the sweetest people!”
She was always the room mother for both of her children, the scout leader for both of them and supported them in all they did. She was always the fun, beautiful mother, and everyone loved sleep-overs at her house.
Her absolute delight was her three grandsons, Cole, Case and Connor, who called her Nan. Summers at Nan’s house were great. They rode over the ranch roads in her dune buggy, played checkers, did arts and crafts projects, played for hours in the sand box and ate the best macaroni and cheese in the world.
Beth loved sewing and made most of hers and Cherry’s clothes. She was a master seamstress. She also enjoyed reading and was a wonderful cook.
She was a truly beautiful person, both inside and out, and she had a very sweet spirit. She loved God and loved people…and people loved her.
Beth was preceded in death by her husband, Clay, a son, Guy Blaine Ingram, a grandson, Collin Chase Furqueron, and her parents, John Wesley and Mary Thelma Schafer.
She is survived by her two children, Cherry Furqueron (Phil) of Midland and Craig Ingram (Lisa) of Midland, her grandsons, Cole Furqueron (Ivania) of Midland, Case Ingram (Alexzandra) of Midland and Connor Furqueron (Katy) of Austin, her sister Dawne Pearson (Mike) of Stanton and her brother Travis Schafer (Janette) of Tuttle, Oklahoma, and several nieces and nephews.
