Mary Alice Hughes, 91, of Big Spring, died on Friday, August 17, 2007, in a local hospital. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM Monday, August 20, 2007 at the Nalley-Pickle & Welch Rosewood Chapel with Dr. Shane Brue, pastor of First United Methodist Church, officiating. Interment will follow at Trinity Memorial Park.The family will receive friends from 5 PM to 7 PM Sunday at the funeral home.She was born on February 25, 1916, in Fort Worth, Texas and married O. G. Hughes on March 28, 1933 in Marietta, Oklahoma. He preceded her in death on January 30, 1985.Mrs. Hughes and her late husband came to Big Spring in 1948 when he was transferred here with the railroad. She worked at Big Spring State Hospital as a social worker for 22 years.She was a member of First United Methodist Church and a member of Big Spring Chapter #67 Order of the Eastern Star, the Order of Beaucants, and the Encouragers. She also volunteered at the Chalet and with Howard County ARC.She was a member of the First United Methodist Church.Survivors include two sons & daughters-in-law, Dale and Tina Hughes of Sandy, Utah and Steve and Cindy Hughes of El Paso; two daughters & sons-in-law, Martha and Rayburn Newton of Georgetown and Carol and Lee Phelps of Garland; 16 grandchildren, 20 great grandchildren and 5 great great grandchildren. She was also preceded in death by one son, Richard Hughes on October 25, 1997 and by three brothers.
