Marvin Tate, 76, of Big Spring, died on Monday, August 31, 2009, at his residence. Private family memorial services will be held at a later date.He was born on February 25, 1933, in Jones County, Texas and married Patricia Smith on December 29, 1984 in Big Spring, Texas.Marvin was a proud member of the United States Army and served during the Korean Conflict from 1950 to 1952. He worked both on shore and off shore drilling. He loved his grandchildren and had a soft spot for needy animals.Survivors include his wife, Pat Tate of Big Spring; six daughters, Kathy Davidson and Sharon Chancy both of Big Spring, Marie Tate of Chelmsford, England, Sherrie Tate-Hoddy of Felixstowe, England, Connie Hoppenrath of Fredericksburg and Susan Schade of Wharton; one son, John Kelsey of Big Spring; one sister, Aline Gilbert of Big Spring; ten grandchildren and four great grandchildren.He was preceded in death by a son, Mike Tate; a brother, Melvin Tate; and a sister, Charlene. The family suggests memorials to the Big Spring Humane Society, P. O. MARVIN ROUGHNECKED FOR ME BACK IN THE 80`S.. I LEFT BIG SPRING IN 1993-- LOST TOUCH WITH HIM THEN-- WE USED TO SWAP STORIES AND CUSS PEOPLE A LOT WHILE WE WERE WORKING -- A LOT OF PEOPLE THAT WE KNEW IN THE OILFIELD HAVE PASSED ON-- IF THERE IS A TOUCHTONE VOICE OPERATED DRILLING RIG IN THE SKY- WE WILL ALL MEET THERE SOMEDAY-- FEEL FREE TO CALL IF YOU WANT-- GOD BLESS ALL OF YOU.. Why I've been deleted from the guestbook once, not right . Marvin was my father.I was born and raised in Big Spring. I beleive I have the right to let the world know, he has a daughter that was not put in the obituary.God please be with our family.

So sorry to hear of Marvin's passing. Pat, It was obvious that you loved Marvin very much. You always broke into a smile when you spoke about him. You and your family are in my prayers.

I didn't know Marvin as well as I would have liked. But he made my mother happy and that to me is a good sign of a good man. I know he is at peace now and I will say a prayer for all his family. May God have a special place for you in Heaven. You will be missed by many.

I will miss you Grandpa. I wish I could have had more time with you, although I will treasure every single moment I spent with you. I am so glad you were able to be a part of Jaxon's life, even if only for a short time. I know you will watch over us and protect us as we try to move on. I have peace knowing that you are now resting. I will miss you so much and I will see you again, someday. I love you Grandpa!

Pat, Sharon and Family----I found out about Marvin's passing tonight. I am so sorry. I truly understand what you are feeling right now, with us losing Sarah only 4 short months ago. We do find the strength to go on, although not easy. I am praying for peace, strength and comfort for your family. I will be glad to help in any way I can. May the LORD be with you at this difficult time.
