Marvin Tate, 76, of Big Spring, died on Monday, August 31, 2009, at his residence. Private family memorial services will be held at a later date.He was born on February 25, 1933, in Jones County, Texas and married Patricia Smith on December 29, 1984 in Big Spring, Texas.Marvin was a proud member of the United States Army and served during the Korean Conflict from 1950 to 1952. He worked both on shore and off shore drilling. He loved his grandchildren and had a soft spot for needy animals.Survivors include his wife, Pat Tate of Big Spring; six daughters, Kathy Davidson and Sharon Chancy both of Big Spring, Marie Tate of Chelmsford, England, Sherrie Tate-Hoddy of Felixstowe, England, Connie Hoppenrath of Fredericksburg and Susan Schade of Wharton; one son, John Kelsey of Big Spring; one sister, Aline Gilbert of Big Spring; ten grandchildren and four great grandchildren.He was preceded in death by a son, Mike Tate; a brother, Melvin Tate; and a sister, Charlene.
