The family will receive friends from 5:00 PM to 6:00 PM on Monday, June 9th, 2025, and the celebration of life memorial services will begin at 6:00 PM on Monday, June 9th, at Nalley-Pickle & Welch Funeral Home in Midland, Texas.
Martin E. Villarreal, known as “Birdie,” was born on July 17th, 1944, in Laredo, Texas, to Francisco Villarreal and Maria De Jesus Vitela. He married Josefa Armendariz in September of 1962, and over the years, he and his “girlfriend” had four beautiful daughters. They were blessed to have a long, though not always easy, marriage that stands as a testament to God’s faith and strength. He believed in God, being friendly to others, working hard, and had a fighter’s spirit. In his younger years, he enjoyed backyard barbecues, road trips, fishing, camping, sponsoring sports teams, bowling, music, and dancing. He and his wife lived in Las Vegas, Nevada, from 1996 to 2009. While in Las Vegas, Dan, Carol, and Sylvia were friends who became family and shared good times. During this time, Martin worked for Signature Lincoln. After they returned to Midland, Texas, he held a few jobs and found a home at United Supermarkets on Andrews Hwy for twelve years. There, he was everyone’s “Grampy” and was known to all. He enjoyed having his family come by the store and introducing them to his co-workers.
Martin is survived by his wife, Josefa Villarreal; his daughter, Lisa Paredes, and her husband, Steve Paredes; his daughter, Anna (Gilbert); his grandson, Michael Anthony Paredes; his granddaughter, Amanda Perez Mathews, and her husband, Jason Mathews; his granddaughter, Alex Paredes; his granddaughter, Ava Gonzalez; his great-grandson, Christian Paredes; his great-granddaughter, Anaya Paredes; his great-granddaughter, Abigail Paredes; his great-grandson, Avery Perez; his great-grandson, William Davis; his great-granddaughter, Amaya Mathews; his great-grandson, Adan Gonzalez; and his great-grandson, Adonis Scurlark. He is also survived by many more nieces, nephews, cousins, and in-laws who loved and cared for him dearly.
