Martha Moody was born in Big Spring on September 29, 1903, to pioneer family L.T. and Sarah Elizabeth Ryan Deats.She passed away peacefully in Garland on October 2, 2005.She was preceded in death by her husband, Alfred,of 63 years, and her children, Elizabeth Frances Stitzell of Garland, Alfred W. Moody of Albuquerque, and Charles Vernon Moody of Big Spring.Martha was a member of the Order of Eastern Star for 82 years, accumulated 23,724 hours as a Red Cross volunteer at the Big Spring VA Hospital and became aGold Star Mother when her son, Charles Vernon, was killed in the Korean War. She was awarded the Clara Barton Award for Outstanding Older Texan.Martha was a life-long member of the First United Methodist Church of Big Spring and its Philathea Class.She is survived byseven grandchildren, Charles Edward Vessel and Martha Ann Mann both of Garland, Sarah Frances Moody of Vail, and Joe Vernon Moody, Sue Titsworth, Syvilla Moody and Beth MoodyallofAlbuquerque, and five great-grandchildren, Carl Edward Vessel,Sarah Elizabeth Mann, and Benjamin Charles Mannall of Garland, and Reanna Payne and Henry Titsworth both of Albuquerque.Service will be held at 11:00 AM, Thursday, October 6, 2005 at the First United Methodist Church with Dr. Dave Ring, pastor, officiating. Visitation will be at the church 1 hour prior to the service.
