Martha Jane Rankin, 78, of Big Spring, died on Friday, March 4, 2005, in a Lubbock hospital. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 AM Monday, March 7, 2005 at the First Presbyterian Church with Rev. Matt Miles, pastor, officiating.She was born on April 23, 1926, in Cleveland, Ohio and married David L. Rankin on June 6, 1948 in North Vernon, Indiana.Mrs. Rankin was raised in North Vernon, Indiana and graduated from Ball State University. She was a music teacher for 6 years and then was a homemaker. She moved to Big Spring in November of 2003 from Avon, Indiana.She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church, a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution, serving as regent a number of times and a member of the International Travel Study Club in Avon, Indiana. Martha Jane was involved in and delivered Meals on Wheels for 25 years. She was interested in genealogy.Survivors include her husband, David L. Rankin of Big Spring; two sons and daughters-in-law, Jonathan L. and Terry Rankin of Plantersville and Andrew D. and Amanda Rankin of Big Spring; three grandsons, Kaleb, Jakob and Marcus and three nephews.She was preceded in death by her parents, Earl and Nina Woolman and one sister, Dorothy Anne Blackwood.
