Mark Thomas Allen peacefully entered his eternal home on June 25, 2025, surrounded by his loving family. Mark was 68 years old at the time of his passing.
Mark was born July 17, 1956, in Mission, TX to Dr. Francis and Elizabeth Allen and was the 3rd oldest of 5 children. Mark graduated from Robert E. Lee High School, where he met his soul mate, Chalnessia (Nessia) Mitchell. On January 20, 1979, Mark was blessed with the honor of marrying his best friend, adventure partner and the love of his life Nessia. Together they had the privilege and honor of raising two beautiful children, making their family whole.
Mark was one of the sweetest, most kind-hearted men you could imagine meeting. His family was his entire world, inspiring him to truly live and experience life to the fullest. There was never a dull moment when spending time around Mark, and you could never anticipate what comment, story, or life lesson he was about to bestow on you. Mark enjoyed his DIY projects as he tried recreating various things that he had seen on home makeover shows or in a showroom. Mark loved traveling and going on adventures near and far. He and his wife visited Hawaii several times, St. Thomas Islands and so many of our national parks. He became involved with Indian Princesses and Indian Guides with his daughter and son, passing on the love of the outdoors, campouts and periodically conspiring with his kids to bring home tarantula “presents” for Nessia (who was generally not fond of said presents). He talked so lovingly about the time he spent in the hill country at his family’s cabin in Vanderpool, TX. where he took his children, nieces & nephews to explore the property, hunting for arrowheads, playing in the river, and causing overall loving mayhem. After raising his children, Mark earned the title of Poppi for five wonderful grandchildren, who instantly stole his heart and according to him, could do nothing wrong. In fact, if he was told by anyone that his grandchildren had “misbehaved,” he always responded with “Nah, sounds like the parents are blaming it on my poor baby.”
After being told by the doctor he had 6 weeks to live Mark made it his mission that he was going to fight with everything he had to stay for as long as he could. He beat the doctors time frame by 2 years leaving us with one final lesson, you can conquer any mountain and defeat any Goliath in life if you have love, faith, determination, and perseverance with those four things – you can prove anyone wrong.
Mark is survived by his wife, Nessia Allen; daughter Savannah Allen and spouse Delia Soto, grandson Jonah Allen (17); daughter-in-law Veronica Domiguez, granddaughters Layla Lynn (15), Emery Elizabeth (7), Aleyna Aurora (4), and grandson Rowan Phoenix (3); sisters Debby Walthall and Erin Bilski and spouse Jerry Bilski; brother Kevin Allen and wife Julie Allen; along with his father-in-law Billy Joe Mitchell, brothers-in-law Drew and Neal Mitchell, and numerous nieces and nephews. Mark is preceded in death by his son Raleigh Allen, parents Dr. Francis and Elizabeth Allen, sister Sharon Gray, and mother-in-law Martha Mitchell.
The family would like to express their gratitude towards their church family at Calvary Assembly of God, Dr. Mangat and Texas Oncology, University Medical Center in Lubbock, TX, MD Anderson Oncology Center, Angel’s Care Home Health, Angel’s Care Hospice, and especially to his nurses Amanda and Emma who not only provided tender, compassionate care for him through his final days, but also for his entire family.
In lieu of flowers, family requests memorial donations be made to the American Cancer Society Hope Lodge in Mark’s name.
Just as Mark loved company, visiting, and sharing stories, the family would like to invite anyone who knew and loved Mark to attend an informal visitation with family Tuesday July 1, 2025, at 1 p.m. with a celebration of life service Tuesday July 1, 2025, at 2 p.m. at Nalley-Pickle & Welch Funeral Home Chapel.
