Mark Ellerbe

Mark Ellerbe, 63, of Midland, passed away on Tuesday, January 30, 2024. The family will receive friends from 2:00pm – 4:00pm, Sunday, February 4, 2024 at Nalley-Pickle & Welch Funeral Home. Funeral services will be at 10:00am, Monday, February 5, 2024 at Fannin Terrace Baptist Church. Interment will follow at 12:30pm at Trinity Memorial Park in Big Spring, Texas.

Mark Ellerbe was born on November 8, 1960 in San Angelo, TX to James and Barbara Ellerbe.  When he was a small child his family settled in Wisner, LA where he spent most of his childhood and youth along with his three brothers and cousins.  Mark attended Wisner High School where he graduated as valedictorian in 1978. He was also a four-year letterman in football.  He attended Louisiana Tech University where he graduated with a degree in Petroleum Engineering in 1982.

Upon graduating from Louisiana Tech, Mark moved to Midland, TX where he would spend almost all of his professional life.  Mark spent his early career working for Superior and Mobil where he would eventually meet his wife, Sonia.  Mark and Sonia would go on to have two sons, Samuel and William.  Mark worked as a production, completions, and drilling engineer for several different companies in the Permian Basin throughout his career including Mobil, EOG, and Concho.  Mark had the opportunity to work overseas in various countries including England, Turkmenistan, and Algeria.  Mark retired from Concho in 2020.

Upon retirement, Mark focused on his passions including raising chickens and cows and hay farming with his wife, Sonia.  Mark’s love for animals carried over from his dogs to his cows and chickens.

Throughout his life, Mark was active in church and in mission work.  He was an integral part of Fannin Terrace Baptist Church since the early 1990’s.  He served as a deacon in the church and taught Sunday school for 26 years.  Mark’s passion for the Bible, history, and service along with his sense of humor allowed him to be an engaging teacher.  Mark was also active in mission work through Fannin Terrace including trips to Moldova and supporting missions to other parts of the world.

Mark was known for his breadth of knowledge, passion for history, sense of humor, and his willingness to always help people and will be missed by all those that were around him.

Mark is survived by his wife, Sonia Ellerbe, their two sons, Samuel Ellerbe and wife Kaitlyn and William Ellerbe, and his three brothers Jimmy Ellerbe and wife Felicia, Mike Ellerbe and wife Lisa, and Bryan Ellerbe and wife Amanda. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews.

Mark is preceded in death by his mother Barbara Sissom Ellerbe, his father James Alvin Ellerbe and his baby brother David Ellerbe.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Fannin Terrace Baptist Church Missions.

Pallbearers will be his nephews Jimmy Ellerbe, Jesse Ellerbe, Eric Ellerbe, Micah Ellerbe, Ray Ellerbe, Eric Lusk, Jon Lusk, Conner Lusk, Justin Myers, and Jarod Hillin.
