Mark Aaron Giebel was born June 2, 1953, and passed away on October 15, 2018. The viewing will be from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m., Saturday, October 20, 2018 at the funeral home. Funeral service will be held at Nalley-Pickle & Welch Chapel, Saturday October 20, 2018 at 2:00 p.m. Interment will follow at Resthaven Memorial Park. His parents were Betty Marie Giebel, now Timmons, and Aaron Frank Giebel. Mark grew up in Midland, TX and attended Fannin Elementary School, and San Jacinto Jr High. He also went to Texas Military Institute for a year. Before finishing high school at Midland High, he was a star football player. He graduated in 1968. Mark then went on to San Angelo State University and graduated with a business degree in 1975.He loved the outdoors, working or playing. He liked to swim, ski, camp and hike. He wasn’t afraid of hard work, and did his very best in any endeavor.Mark went to work for his Dad in 1975 for MGF Oil Company. He took over the company (Giebel Petroleum LTD) after his father Aaron passed away in a private plane crash on February 14, 1990.He met Gina (his wife) in November of 1978 and they married on August 29, 1980. Mark fought to keep the company afloat after the ‘big oil bust’ of the early 80’s. He worked hard, with the help of a tremendous staff, to pull the company back to where it would flourish.I know he would want me to thank his tremendous employees over the years for their hard work and dedication. Giebel Petroleum would not have survived without them.Mark is survived by his wife, Gina; sons, Scot and Eric; grandson, Mark Aaron III; mother, Betty; sisters, Suzanne Thorpe, Kathy Larkman, and Jill Warford and their families. In lieu of flowers, the family asks for donations to Alzheimer’s Association, or American Cancer Society.Arrangements are under the direction of Nalley-Pickle & Welch Funeral Home & Crematory of Midland.
