Marion Daily, 81 of Midland, passed away on March 31, 2023. Marion was born In Abilene, Texas on January 10, 1942. The fourth child of Seth and Faye Daily, was raised in Big Lake, Texas. Marion played various sports growing up and graduated from Reagan County High School. He then attended North Texas State University where he met his wife, Judy. After graduating college he worked in the mortgage business, moving several times back and forth between the Fort Worth/Dallas area and Midland. In the late 1970’s he went to work in Midland for West Texas Abstract & Title Co. and after several years he purchased the business.
He and Judy had 2 sons, Jeff and Michael, and was very involved coaching, organizing and helping with their various activities growing up; from scouting to sports. He was involved in helping to bring youth soccer to Midland in the mid-1970s.
Marion was also very active in his community and served as president of the Better Business Bureau, various capacities in the Texas Land Title Association, once being awarded their Title Person of the Year. Marion also served on the board and a term as president of Greentree Country Club, where he had been a founding member. He volunteered with various organizations throughout his life, most recently with Area Missions Outreach Services (AMOS) food pantry. He faithfully served AMOS up to the last year of his life.
He was member of St. Luke’s United Methodist Church for almost 50 years where he served in various capacities including, Chairman of the Administrative board, on the Foundation Board, church treasurer and in various fundraising capacities including their Crawfish Boil.
He loved sports, both playing and watching. He could always be found at his son’s various sporting activities as they grew up. He also liked to hunt and fish and liked watching the Dallas Cowboys and Texas Rangers. His great love was golf, playing as often as he could, hitting holes-in-one twice in his life.
Marion also loved to travel, having been to all 50 states in the U.S. Throughout his life he also traveled through Canada, Mexico, Central America, the Caribbean, and Europe. Some of his more memorable trips included fishing in Kodiak, Alaska sharing fishing space with Kodiak bears, taking a sailing vessel through the Panama Canal, heli-hiking in Canada, and on church mission trips helping to build housing for children with AIDS in Kenya, Africa.
Marion loved to tell stories, listen to stories and had a great sense of humor. He loved to laugh and enjoyed spending time with his family and many friends.
He was a cancer survivor, but in the end could not defeat Alzheimer’s disease.
He rose from humble beginnings to achieve great things. Mainly as a husband, father, grandfather and friend.
Marion was preceded in death by his father Seth, mother Faye, sister Barbara, brother Richard, and sister Susan. He is survived by his sister Rose; his wife of 59 years, Judy; two sons, Michael and Jeff and Jeff’s wife Debra; and his two cherished granddaughters, Alyssa and Kristen.
Memorial service will be 10 AM Friday, July 21, 2023 at St. Lukes United Methodist Church in Midland. There will be a reception following the service in the church foyer.
