Marion Greer Carter 82, died Friday, July 28, 2017 at his home in Glasscock County. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m., Wednesday August 2, 2017 at the Nalley-Pickle & Welch Rosewood Chapel in Big Spring. Interment will follow at the Garden City Cemetery in Garden City.He was the son of Joe Carter and Mary Schafer Carter, both from pioneer families in Glasscock County. Mary died in childbirth and Marion was raised by his grandmother, Pearl Baker and his great grandparents, Christ and Susan Schafer. The ranch where he died was the same one which he had lived all his life and it was homesteaded in 1886 by the Schafers. He graduated from Garden City High School in 1954 and attended Howard College and Texas Tech University.He had served as a police officer in Midland. He began working for Coca-Cola Bottling Company in Big Spring in 1963 and worked in a number of capacities before retiring in April 2000. During the time he was a “coke man”, he met and befriended people from every walk of life. Marion was always involved in agriculture and raised cattle on his ranch. He loved his land and enjoyed spending time outside with his cattle, horses, goats, and guns.Carter is survived by his wife, Nelda; one daughter, Lois Pearl McDaniel (Steve) of Big Spring; one granddaughter, Mary-Ashley McDaniel of San Angelo; two step-daughters, Toni Moore (Eddy) of Flower Mound, Nikki Lewis (Darrell) of Baird, and step-son Dennie Tidwell of Bowling Green, KY; four step-grandsons, Darek Tidwell of KY, Scotty Moore of Flower Mound, Michael Lewis (Jenna) of Corinth, Rikky Moore of Sammamish, WA; three step-granddaughters, Kelli Malone (Tim) of Lewisville, Chelsi Runyun (Landon) of Lewisville, Kayme McIntosh (Rusty) of Carrollton; and 6 step-great grandchildren, a brother, Joe Carter of Snyder, and a sister, Ann Carter.Pallbearers will be Scotty Moore, Keith Burnett, Guy Newell, Richard Schafer, Jerry Schafer, and Hugh Schafer.Honorary Pallbearers are Ralph Schafer, Marck Schafer, Desi Hernandez, Mike Douglas, and Dr. David Long.Arrangements are under the direction of Nalley-Pickle & Welch Funeral Home and Crematory.
