Marion Flynt Chancellor, 70, of Midland, Texas, passed away on December 16th, 2022.
Known as “Marion” only to telemarketers, Flynt was born in Midland on August 3, 1952. He was the second of three sons born to Charles William “Bill” Chancellor, Jr. and Olive Otelia “Tela” Flynt Chancellor. The Chancellor boys were born and raised in Midland, and Flynt graduated from Midland High School in 1970. He then attended the University of Texas at Austin, where he was a member of the Phi Kappa Psi fraternity and earned a Bachelor of Business Administration degree.
After graduation, Flynt decided to move back to his hometown to be a Landman, where he would raise his family and happily spend the rest of his life. During the Christmas holiday season of 1975, he met Elizabeth (Liz) Willingham while playing pool, and he knew he needed that pool shark to be his wife. Luckily for Flynt, Liz felt the same way, and they married on October 22, 1977. In 1983, they had their first child, a son, Tyler Flynt Chancellor. In 1985, their daughter, Erin Elizabeth Chancellor, was born. They spent happy summers on Lake Buchannan, where Flynt taught the kids to water ski and loved slinging them around the lake on inner tubes. In 1990, Flynt joined his business partner, Freddy Allison, which he had until his passing, to create Centerpoint Resources, Inc. He loved going into the office, and especially liked bringing the kids with him. In 2019, his son Tyler married Clarissa Marrufo and was blessed with his first grandchild, Eliana Marie “Ellie,” in June 2022. Spending time with her brought so much joy to him and Liz. Flynt was also looking forward to the upcoming marriage of his daughter Erin to her fiancé, Ben Johnson Phillips.
Flynt was preceded in death by his parents.
He is survived by his wife, Liz Chancellor; son Tyler Chancellor, wife Clarissa Chancellor, and granddaughter Ellie Chancellor; and daughter Erin Chancellor. He is also survived by two brothers, Charles William Chancellor, III and Tracey Lynn Chancellor, sister-in-law Rita Lateste Chancellor, and nieces Cara Cristine Chancellor and Crista Lynn Chancellor.
