Marilee Runyan passed on to her heavenly home on September 28, 2022. Marilee was born in Tulsa, Oklahoma on October 5, 1931, the third child of Earl & Laura Hatfield with her brother Earl and sister, Gloria. Marilee was raised in Cleveland, Oklahoma and graduated from Cleveland High school as the outstanding girl athlete. After a short stay at Oklahoma A&M, now known as Oklahoma State University, she moved to Tulsa where she began her career in the oil industry at Reynolds Brothers. She then moved to Amerada Petroleum Corp, where she became Secretary to the Chief Engineer. It was at Amerada that she met the love of her life Ed Runyan. Ed and Marilee were married in Cleveland, Oklahoma on April 7, 1957 and moved to Oklahoma City where Ed worked for Sohio Petroleum Company. Together they had three children Ed, Laurie, and Leigh Ann. Ed was transferred to Midland in 1962 and they spent their entire lives together in Midland. Ed and Marilee travelled extensively with Ed’s work in the oilfield, many times with the family seeing the world. She was a member of the Holy Trinity Episcopal and an active participant of its many activities.
She was preceded in death by her brother Earl Hatfield Jr. and her sister Gloria Hollis as well as her parents. She is survived by her husband of 66 years Ed Runyan, her daughters Laurie Kidwell and Leigh Ann Runyan, her son Edward Runyan, six grandchildren, and four great grandchildren.
The family would like to give a special thanks to Yolanda Jimenez and her family for dedicating so much time and love to the care of Marilee. Yolanda and Marilee had a bond beyond measure and Yolanda is an angel sent from heaven. We would also like to thank Opal Johnson for taking such great care of Marilee. A thank you to Hospice of Midland is in order for their professionalism and care during the last few weeks of Marilee’s life.
In lieu of flowers, the family would ask that any memorials or donations be directed to two places. As an avid pet lover, Marilee would appreciate directing any memorials to Lone Star Sanctuary for Animals or Hospice of Midland for the amazing care.
Arrangements were under the direction of Nalley-Pickle & Welch Funeral Home & Crematory of Midland. Online condolences may be made at www.npwelch.com.
