Margie Lee Ward, 97, of Big Spring, Texas, passed away peacefully on Sunday, June 14, 2026, at her residence with her grandson, Shane, by her side.
Graveside services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, June 24, 2026, in the chapel at Mount Olive Memorial Park Cemetery.
Margie was born on July 8, 1928, in Bosque County, Texas, to George Washington Wilson and Josephine Wilkerson Wilson. She spent most of her life on a farm in Big Spring with her beloved husband, Bill. Alongside her husband, she owned and operated Ward’s Boot, Saddle & Western Wear until her retirement in 2005 at the age of 77.
Known affectionately as “Granny,” Margie was a hard worker who stayed busy and active throughout her life. She spent countless hours in the kitchen preparing delicious homemade meals and planning fun weekends and family trips. Her grandson Shane was the light of her life until her great-granddaughters came along. She rarely missed a school function or holiday gathering, creating beautiful memories that her family will cherish forever.
Margie was a proud member of the Red Hat Society and Senior Circle. After losing her husband, she demonstrated her determination and resilience by returning to school and earning her GED through Howard College at the remarkable age of 95.
Granny was a go-getter, a fighter, and tough as nails. Her love for her family was fierce and unwavering, especially for her grandson, Shane, and her great-granddaughters, Stevi and Jovi. She always made sure they were very well taken care of.
She is survived by her grandson and granddaughter-in-law, Shane and Karen Ward of Big Spring; her great-granddaughters, Stevi Ward of Lubbock and Jovi Ward of Big Spring; her half-sister, Martha Brown of Corpus Christi; and Della Mae Bedwell of Amarillo, who was like a daughter to her and held a special place in her heart.
She was preceded in death by her husband, W.H. “Bill” Ward; her sons, Ronnie William Ward and William Harrison Ward III; her mother, Josephine Wilkerson Burney; and her sisters, Mary Lehman, Ruth Corley, and Bobby Buckley.
The family would like to extend their heartfelt gratitude to the staff at Park Place for the love, kindness, and special care you showed Granny. Thank you for always making her feel valued and loved. She loved y’all, and it always showed with her sweet smile and facial expressions! We are also deeply grateful to her caregivers, Norma, Janie, Christine, and the many others who cared for her day and night. You treated her like family, and your compassion and sacrifice will never be forgotten!
A special thank you to Interim Hospice for the exceptional care, comfort, and support provided during her final months. Your kindness helped make her transition peaceful and surrounded by love.
Her family finds comfort that she is once again walking hand in hand with Bill the love of her life!
