Margaret Potter Young, 91, passed away Friday, December 18, 2009 at the Hospice of Midland Memorial Hospital. She was born on April 1, 1918 in Beeville, Texas to William Martin Lawson and Olive Eugenia Lawson. She grew up in Three Rivers, Texas and attended Texas A & I College in Kingsville, Texas.Mrs. Young was married to John W. Young on June 7, 1941 and they enjoyed 68 wonderful years of marriage. The Youngs moved to Midland in 1950 where Mrs. Young worked at several places including Ben Milam and South Elementary Schools. She was a member of St. Luke's United Methodist Church for 50 years where she taught Sunday school, sang in the choir, rang handbells, and was very active in United Methodist Women. Through the years, Mrs. Young was involved with a number of different organizations including the Permain Basin Landman's Auxiliary and the Museum of the Southwest. Her favorite, however, was volunteering for 20 years as a reader for the Recording Library of West Texas.The Youngs were active in the WesTex Chapter of FMCA and traveled all over North America in their motorhome. In addition to travel, Mrs. Young also enjoyed doing handwork, following her favorite sports team, and playing bridge. She will be remembered for her loving spirit, her gifted teaching, and her wonderful sense of humor.Mrs. Young was preceded in death by her parents. She is survived by her husband, John Young of Midland; her son, Dr. John Young, Jr. and his wife, Pam, of Midland; her daughter, Alice Freidline, and her husband, Roger, of Midland; four grandchildren, Greg Freidline of Socorro, NM, Eric Freidline of Dallas, Lindsey Cunningham of Southlake, and Hillary Young of Midland; Lindsey and Hillary's mother, Diane Young, of Winchester, TN; and, two great-grandchildren, Ashton Young of Southlake and Izaiah Young of Midland.Visitation with the family is from 7:00 – 8:00 p.m., on Monday, December 21, 2009 at Nalley-Pickle & Welch Funeral Home with Graveside services Tuesday at 3:00 at Resthaven Memorial Park. A memorial service will be held on Tuesday, December 29, 2009 at 2:00 p.m., at St. Luke's United Methodist Church with Reverend Kathryn Boren officiating.
