Manuel C. Cervantes, Sr., 87, of Big Spring, died on Wednesday, October 8, 2008, in a Lubbock hospital. A vigil service will be held at 7:00 PM Sunday, October 12, 2008 at the Nalley-Pickle & Welch Rosewood Chapel. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 AM Monday, October 13, 2008 at the St. Thomas Catholic Church with Father Ariel Lagunilla, officiating and Deacon Horatio Yanez, assisting. Interment will follow at Mt. Olive Memorial Park.He was born on February 15, 1921, in Quito, Texas and married Maria Quintela on November 28, 1938 in Marfa, Texas.Mr. Cervantes came to Big Spring in 1942 from Marfa and worked for the City of Big Spring as a plant operator at the Waste Water Treatment Plant, retiring after 31 years. He was a member of St. Thomas Catholic Church and a member of the Cursillistas for over 40 years.Survivors include his wife, Maria Cervantes of Big Spring; one son and daughter-in-law, Manuel, Jr. and Margaret Cervantes of Big Spring; two brothers, Rodolfo Cervantez of Sacramento, California, and Raul Franco of San Antonio; one sister, Maria Diaz of Big Spring; three grandsons, Michael Herrera, Manuel Cervantes III and Donald Cervantes all of Big Spring; four granddaughters, Sylvia Milan of Big Spring, Priscilla Haro of San Antonio, Belinda Herrera of San Angelo and Joanne Cervantes of Big Spring; seventeen great grandchildren and two great great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by one son, Manuel Cervantes; one daughter, Noemi Herrera; his parents, Antonio and Margarita Cervantes; two sisters, Maria Martinez and Lupe Bihl; two brothers, Ramon Franco and Juan Cervantez and one great grandson, Richard Haro, Jr. Arrangements under the direction of Nalley-Pickle & Welch Funeral Home & Crematory of Big Spring.
