M. Cuin Grigsby, Sr., 95, of Big Spring, died on Monday, June 13, 2005, in a local nursing home. Graveside funeral services will be held at 10:00 AM Thursday, June 16, 2005 at the Peace Chapel at Trinity Memorial Park with Rev. Dennis Teeters, pastor of First Baptist Church, officiating.The family will receive friends from 5:00 PM to 6:00 PM Wednesday at the funeral home.He was born on November 26, 1909, in Dexter, Texas and married Juanita Wyatt on January 17, 1931 in Tulsa, Oklahoma. She preceded him in death on September 7, 1982.Mr. Grigsby was raised in Snyder, Oklahoma and attended Oklahoma A & M, which is now Oklahoma State University in Stillwater. He started his career with CR Anthony's in Stillwater, Oklahoma and was made manager of CR Anthony's in Cleveland, Oklahoma. He and his late wife, Juanita, came to Big Spring in 1941 to open the first CR Anthony's store in West Texas. He was manager of CR Anthony's in Big Spring for many years and had served as area supervisor. He opened many CR Anthony's stores and had produced 37 managers. At the time of his retirement he had worked for CR Anthony's for 60 years. Two of the awards that he received from CR Anthony's were the Scrapper Award, which is a boxing glove-shaped pin given to someone when he does something outstanding and a plaque for having a million dollar store in 1975. Mr. Grigsby had lived in Abilene for 10 years before returning to Big Spring in February 2002. He was a member of First Baptist Church and the American Legion. He had served in the United States Navy during World War II.Survivors include one daughter and son-in-law, Merline and Leland Pierce of Big Spring; two sons and one daughter-in-law, M. Cuin, Jr. and Judy Grigsby of Abilene, and Wesley Grigsby of Dallas; seven grandchildren and five great grandchildren.
