Louise Rains, 78, of Midland passed away Friday, October 31, 2008 at Hospice House in Odessa. Graveside services will be held at Resthaven Memorial Park on Monday, November 3, 2008 at 1:00 pm. Viewing will begin Sunday afternoon, November 2nd at Nalley-Pickle & Welch Funeral Home. Following the graveside service, the family will receive guests at the Rains residence.Louise was born September 6, 1930 in Post, Texas to Reverend J.E. and Edna Lee. She was raised in the Flomot area and graduated from Flomot High School. She then moved to Plainview, Texas and attended Wayland Baptist College, where she was the Captain of the "Flying Queens" Women's Basketball Team.At the age of 19, she met the love of her life, Paul Rains; it was love at first sight. They later married in Clovis, New Mexico on June 30, 1951. They began their marriage in San Antonio, Texas at Lackland Air Force Base where Paul was stationed and Louise worked as a secretary for the American Red Cross. After several years of farming in the panhandle of Texas, the couple moved to Dimmitt where Louise continued to work as a secretary for both the County Clerks and Abstract Office. In 1966, they moved to Midland, where they raised their three daughters.Louise delighted in her family and took great pride in their accomplishments. Her hobbies included sports, sewing, gardening, and most of all, being a homemaker. In addition, she participated as a MHS Band Booster. Her greatest joy, however, came from her husband, her three daughters, and her 6 grandchildren, whom she adored. Above all, Louise's Christian faith, gentle spirit, and kindness were a gift to everyone around her.She is preceded in death by her parents, and her beloved husband, Paul Rains. She is survived by her three daughters, Vicki Henderson, Cindy Meile, and Ginger Yowell, all of Midland; her two sons-in-law, David Henderson and Al Yowell, of Midland; six grandchildren, Andrea Lake, of North Richland Hills, Kevin Henderson, of Lubbock, Amanda Henderson, of Midland, Rachael Hines, of Mesa, Arizona, Paul Meile, of Mesa, Arizona, of Mesa, Arizona, and Nicole Meile, of Midland; as well as one great grandson, David Hines, of Mesa, Arizona; one brother and sister-in-law, Orville and Ruth Lee, of Flomot, Texas; and one sister and brother-in-law, Carolyn and C.R. Horn, of Ranger, Texas.The family would like to thank all of the caring staff and nurses at Home Hospice in Midland and the Hospice House of Odessa, for their kindness and care of our Mother.
