Lon R Grimes

Lon R Grimes, 63, of Midland passed away at his home in Midland on June 27, 2013. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Sunday, June 30, 2013 from 2:00 until 4:00 pm. Viewing will begin on Saturday, June 29, 2013 at the funeral home.He was born on December 11, 1949 in Comanche, Texas to Robert Leland and Ora Belle Cleveland Grimes. Lon served his country in the Vietnam Conflict from 1968 until 1972 along side other members of the US Navy. On March 20, 1984 in Las Vegas, NV, Lon married Leonora Holcomb. Upon completing thirty years of service as a Postal Clerk with the US Postal Service he retired on January 31, 2013. Words best used to describe Lon are: optimistic, funny, smart and brutally honest. Lon enjoyed designing with iron, gardening, sunrises and the outdoors. He was a jack of all trades, but master of none. He was a great husband, brother, dad and granddad and a man who loved his family deeply.Survivors include his wife, Leonora Grimes of Midland; daughters, Tina Jackson and husband Brett of Grass Valley, CA and Erika Grimes of Roseville, CA and their mother Maya Smith of Japan; grandsons, Tanner Collins of Grass Valley, CA and Devyn Grimes of Roseville, CA; sister, Jeanie Miller and husband Tom of Heath, TX; brother, Robert Grimes and wife Laura of Midland, TX; nieces Jennifer Grimes of Tyler, TX and Tammy Fischer and husband Ian of McKinney, TX; and nephew, Robert Grimes and wife Bobbie of Midland, TX.In lieu of flowers, the family has requested that memorials be directed to the SPCA, 2701 S.
