Lois Gladys Rogge, 83, of Midland, Texas, went home to be with her Lord and Savior on Saturday, June 14, 2008. She was born on February 19, 1925, in Sweetwater, Texas to Robert Henry Rogge and Gladys Amanda Cates. After completing her schooling in Sweetwater, she attended Hardin-Simmons University and received a B.S. degree in education and later a M.A. degree. Miss Rogge began her teaching career at Buckner's Home in Dallas, Texas, worked several years at Coggin Avenue Baptist in Brownwood, Texas, and taught school in Rotan, Texas. In 1955, Lois moved to Midland, Texas and spent many years doing what she loved to do most?working with children. Though she never had children of her own, her expertise in teaching benefited many children, parents, and teachers in Midland throughout the years. After she left classroom teaching, Lois worked as a reading specialist, and in several other positions as an administrator. She eventually became the Language Arts coordinator for grades K through the 8th in MISD. After retirement from MISD, Lois again expanded her love of children by accepting the position as Minister of Childhood Education at First Baptist Church, Midland. Among her accomplishments there were launching the Children's Bible Drill Program, working with directors and teachers in the Sunday School departments (Birth through Sixth Grade), and planning Vacation Bible School each summer. Her greatest dream was fulfilled when she helped establish the Child Development Center for First Baptist. Later she helped design a wing of the Children's Building. Lois was a member of First Baptist Church, Delta Kappa Gamma, Midland Retired Teachers Association, and the Midland Porcelain Art Club. Lois is survived by her two sisters, Mildred Rogge and Vivian Proffitt of Odessa; her nieces; Jana Farley and her husband Darrin of Midland, Kenna Hurley, Kara Forbess and her husband Scott of Odessa; four great-nephews, Adam, Brian, and Chad Farley, and Daniel Forbess; three great-nieces, Danae Hurley, Amy Farley, and Brianne Forbess. She was preceded in death by her parents, Henry and Gladys Rogge; her brother-in-law, Garland Proffitt; and a great-nephew, Jordan Forbess. Visitation will be on Tuesday, June 17, 2008, from 6 to 8 p.m. at Nalley-Pickle & Welch Funeral Home. A Graveside Service will be on Wednesday, June 18, 2008, at 10:00 a.m. at Sunset Memorial Gardens in Odessa.
