Lois Brooks Stewart

After 85 beautiful years of life, Lois Brooks

Stewart peacefully left this earth on August

19, 2026 with her loving family by her side.

Lois, affectionately known to many as

“Mama,” “Bemo,” “Chef,” and “Granny,” was

born on March 7, 1941, in Anson, Texas, to

Dorothy and Freddie Wallace.

She discovered her love for cooking at a

very young age, beginning to cook at just

eight years old. Her passion for preparing

food and caring for others through her

cooking remained a special part of who she

was throughout her life.

Lois spent 15 years working in the salon

industry before returning to her greatest

passion, being in the kitchen. She became a

chef at Green Tree Country Club, where she

was able to share her talent and love of food

with many others. She was the first black

female chef of the Texas Chef Association.

Lois was the oldest of 12 children and was

preceded in death by her parents, Dorothy

Houston and Freddy Wallace; her husbands,

Paul Deboskie, Rodger Brooks, A.C. Stewart,

and Joe T. Meyers; her brothers, Fred Wallace,

James Wallace, Floyd Wallace, Joe Wallace,

Jessie Houston, and Danny Houston; her son,

Cedric Baty; her daughter, Sondra Deboskie;

and her great-granddaughter, Eris Cheri

“Tinkerbell” Malarney.

A loving legacy will be carried on by her

sister-in-law and best friend, Rose Deboskie

Price; her daughters, Shelia Williams, Paula

Deboskie, Angela Deboskie, Lanette Deboskie,

and Andrea Deboskie-Jeffries; and her sons,

Timothy Deboskie, Paul Brown, Marcus Baty,

and William “Bill” Baty.

Lois is survived by her siblings, Teddy

Wallace, Johnny Houston, Dorothy Harris,

Patricia Dancer, and Charlotte Houston, along

with numerous grandchildren, great grandchildren,

great-great-grandchildren,

nieces, nephews, extended family members,

and dear friends who will forever treasure her

memory.

Lois was more than a mother, grandmother, sister,

and chef; she was a source of love, strength, wisdom,

and comfort to everyone around her. She loved

talking about the Bible and sharing her hopes for

the future with others.

Cooking, traveling, fishing, hunting, dancing,

making jokes, and playing pranks helped her pass

the time. Lois had a wonderful sense of humor,

knew how to have a great time, and always made

sure she looked fabulous while doing it.

She made her presence known and her opinions

heard, especially when it came to food. Giving

advice about what to eat and how to eat it was her

favorite pastime! Her kitchen was a place where

love was served in abundance, memories were made,

laughter filled the room, and people were cared for.

Lois leaves behind a legacy of faith, love, family,

good food, and unforgettable memories. Her life

touched countless people, the lessons she taught,

the meals she prepared, the jokes she told, and the

love she gave will continue through the generations.

Though she will be deeply missed, Lois’s love and

memory will remain forever in the hearts of all who

knew and loved her.
