Lloyd Carroll Hardy, 90, of Garden City, died on Wednesday, July 17, 2002, at his residence. Funeral services will be at 10:00 AM Saturday, July 20, 2002, at the First United Methodist Church, Garden City with Rev. Karan Young, pastor of First United Methodist Church, and Rev. Claude McKiddy, former pastor of First United Methodist Church, officiating. Interment will follow at the Garden City Cemetery. Born April 4, 1912, Lloyd moved to Glasscock County in 1925. Three of the brothers drove wagons and the remainder came in two Model T touring cars and a Model T truck pulling trailers. Lloyd was 12 years old and drove one of the Model T's. After high school, Lloyd and his brother, June, went to electrical school in Chicago. Upon returning, he went to work on the Sam Greer Ranch and then worked for Hardy Morgan and Jim Parker in Andrews County. In 1939 Lloyd bought out the McDaniel Ranch and became an independent rancher. In 1939, he married Hazel Marguerite Cook and had two daughters. In the 1950's, along with ranching, he bought and operated the Humble Service Station in Garden City and also farmed. The drought of the 50's forced Lloyd out of the stock business and he then started a trucking business. In 1975, he purchased the Howard Ranch west of St. Lawrence. Later he sold and purchased the Long Ranch and a portion of the Ratliff Ranch. A longtime member of the First United Methodist Church in Garden City, Lloyd served as a member of the board and Finance Chairman for many years. The church was part of his life to which he donated his time and energy to its up keep and maintanence. He was a former school board member and has always been a familiar face in any community project. Lloyd is survived by his wife of 63 years, Marguerite; two daughters and sons-in-law, Reta and Steve Bell of Garden City and Paula and Guy Talbot of Big Spring; three granddaughters and their husbands, Stephanie and Charles Dobbs, Neiman and Lance Hill, and Krystal and Brandon McDaniel. He is also survived by one brother, Dave Hardy of Arizona. Precededing him in death were his parents, James and Corrillia Hardy, five brothers, Brandon, Erman, Murrary, Tom, and June; and one sister, Cornelia Edwards. Lloyd was a true Southern gentleman and his whole life was devoted to his girls. He was an extremely hard worker with a huge heart and was highly respected by the entire community. Pallbearers will be Jamie Alvarado, Jimmy Hardy, Randel Sherrod, Steve Edwards, Bill Edwards, Vince Wood, Royce Pruitt, Dale Hillger, James Cook, Allie B. Cook, Dick Cunningham, Michael Hoch, Harry Love Calverly, and Douglas Cauble.
