Lisa Ray, 79, of Midland, passed away Sunday, October 24, 2010. Funeral services will be held at 10:00am, Wednesday, October 27, 2010 at Nalley-Pickle & Welch Chapel in Midland with Rev. Ty Morris, officiating. Interment will follow at Resthaven Memorial Park in Midland. Lisa was born March 9, 1931 in Hamburg, Germany to Benno and Marie Thoele. She was raised in Germany and endured trying times for a young girl because of World War II. She met the love of her life, Don Ray in 1956, while he was serving in the Army and stationed in Hamburg, Germany. They were married February 2, 1957 in Munich. After 47 years of marriage, Don preceded Lisa in death on January 18, 2004.Lisa was a loving wife, mother and grandmother. She loved growing plants and flowers. She really had a "green thumb". Pursuing her interest in horticulture, she went to work for Midland Hydroponics Farms before owning her own business, Patio Lane. Lisa also worked as a bookkeeper for Birkhead Feed Store and Permian Mattress Factory, before retiring. She was an avid Texas Longhorn football fan.Survivors include son, Paul Ray and wife Bonnie of Midland and grandchildren, Payton and Mindy Ray. She was preceded in death by parents, Benno and Marie Thoele, brothers, Rolf and Bodo Thoele and husband, Don Ray.In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials be made to Midland Christian School, 2001 Culver DR, Midland, TX 79705.Arrangements are under the direction of Nalley-Pickle & Welch Funeral Home & Crematory of Midland.
