Lexeen Weaver

Lexeen Weaver, 85 of Midland Texas, passed away on December 9, 2023.  A visitation will be held at 9:00 a.m. Thursday, December 14, 2023 at Nalley-Pickle & Welch Funeral Home.  Services will be held at 10:30 a.m., Thursday, December 14, 2023 at Nalley-Pickle & Welch Funeral Home Chapel, 3800 N. Big Spring St in Midland. The burial will take place at Hancock Cemetery in Lamesa  following the reception.

Lexeen was born on August 10^th, 1938 in Lamesa, Texas as the first of four children for Lex and Julia (Carlton) Woodul.  Lexeen grew up on her parents’ farm in Lamesa and went to the local schools.  At 17, she married the love of her life, John Melvin Weaver, having met in high school and continued the relationship as he went off to college.  They spent the next 20 years moving around the West Texas area for John’s engineering career and during this time gave birth to 4 children.  In 1978 they moved to Midland, Texas where they both lived out the rest of their lives.  She instilled a love of reading within all her children through the many books of mystery and adventure read to them during their childhood.  Jesus was a central figure in her family and no matter where they moved, the family soon joined the local Baptist church and were active participants in not only Sunday services but all the education the churches had to offer.

Lexeen was not only a beautiful woman, but she had a love of beautiful things: flowers, books, artwork and décor.  Using this love and her unique artistic talent, she made every home their family lived in a welcoming oasis with interesting decorator touches and a wonderful garden outside to enhance the exterior.  She was a hobbyist painter and leaves a legacy of many beautiful works with friends and family to brighten their walls.  Later in her life, this talent was used to start her own business of floral design and extended her creativity into many homes in the West Texas area.  Lexeen not only had a passion for design but she also loved people and believed in giving back to the community.  In each town she lived in, she was involved in volunteer work and eventually became a significant volunteer in the mental health community, working thousands of hours over 30 + years at the Big Spring State Hospital and North Texas State Hospital in Wichita Falls.  During her time at the State hospitals she was given numerous awards for her impact in those health institutions.

Lexeen and John both loved to fish and camp early in their marriage but as they grew together their travel tastes became more adventurous and they enjoyed finding new cities with delicious food and unique history around the United States, Europe and Libya.  This became their passion in retirement years and they made the most of their time together traveling and when home tending the most beautiful garden ever!  They were thrilled with the addition of grandchildren and loved to include them in their adventures and were known for taking them all over the state of Texas, Fort Davis, Big Bend, Terlingua, Sand Dunes and of course fishing in Colorado. They enjoyed a wonderful marriage for 59 years. Lexeen was also blessed to have so many amazing friendships that lasted almost her whole life.  Nancy Koger and Sunny Hale, who she had known since they were children, continued to send letters and surprises to the very last and Gladys and Scott Hickman, friends from college, were visiting her weekly while she was in Manor Park Memory Care.

Lexeen is survived by her children; Janae (Tad) Hall, Dana (Ralph) Johnson, Eric (Connie) Weaver and Vance (Charla) Weaver and by her brother, Zant Woodul,.  In addition, she was the proud grandmother of 8 grandchildren; Taren Mandeville, Jonathan Hall, Dawson Weaver, Leslie Carter, Steven Weaver, Lexa Johnson, Julie Johnson and Kross Weaver and 11 great-grandchildren.

Lexeen is preceded in death by her parents, Lex and Julia Woodul, her husband, John Weaver, her sister, Klata Peacock and brother Greg Woodul.

The family would like to extend their gratitude to the Vogel Center at Manor Park for the wonderful care the past 3 years and Hospice of Midland for their compassion and kindness over the past months.
