Lewis "Lew" Espinosa, 76, of Midland, passed away Monday, May 25, 2009. Memorial services will be held at 1:00 pm, Saturday, May 30, 2009 at St. Stephen's Catholic Church in Midland with Monsignor James Bridges, officiating.He was born on October 15, 1932, in Vancouver, Washington to Lawrence and Hazel Espinosa and married Vera Potter on August 6, 1988 in Renton, Washington. He was a member of St. Stephen's Catholic Church.Lewis grew up in Parkdale, Oregon and attended schools there. After attending Willamette University in Oregon, he went to work for the Boeing Company in Renton, Washington. Lew worked his way up in the company for many years. He traveled with Boeing all across the country installing minuteman missiles with the military. Lew retired from Boeing in the early 90s, after 37 years of service. After retirement, Lew and Vera moved to Midland to be near family. He was very involved in volunteering with Helping Hands, St. Vincent de Paul, and assisting with the food pantry at St. Ann's, as well as with Soldiers of Today and Yesterday, where he helped deliver wheelchairs to injured veterans and soldiers in Ft. Sam Houston area. Lew loved golf, it was his passion and he played several times a week. Survivors include his wife, Vera of Midland; three daughters, Trudy Espinosa Slater and husband Lanny of Ft. Worth, Vicki Gates and husband Jerome of Seattle, WA and Karin Brinkley and husband Steve of Richmond, VA; a son, Steven Espinosa of Seattle, WA; three brothers, Robert Espinosa of Campbell, CA, George Espinosa of Ridgefield, WA and Art Espinosa of California; a sister, Eloise Pope of Portland, OR; six grandchildren, Shane Slater, Spencer Seavey, Sabrina Seavey, Chad Brinkley, Garrett Schaner and Shannon Huckins; three great grandchildren, Zachary Brinkley, Britton Slater and Matthew Seavey.He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother, Frank Espinosa; and two sisters, Eula Hardy and Ervil Loftis.The family suggests memorials be made to: Soldiers of Today & Yesterday (S.T.Y.) or the American Heart Association.Arrangements are under the direction of Nalley-Pickle & Welch Funeral Home & Crematory of Midland.
