She was born January 6, 1921 in Cason, Texas to William D. and Ada Maude Barnard Kersey. Letha was a member of Trinity Baptist Church for 74 years and was a warrior of Christ. She was saved at an early age of 8 years old in the late 1920’s. Letha brought hundreds of people to Christ. She made sure every person she came in contact with knew about her Jesus. She taught Sunday school for many years and was very active in missions work alongside her husband until his death in 1992. She still pursued the work of the Lord through missions, traveling on various missions trips to Brazil, Mexico and Honduras. She prayed daily for all of the missionaries and she never missed an opportunity to fellowship with them.
Letha was a World War II nurse. From 1993 until 2008, Letha was a faculty member at Howard College teaching Nurse Aide classes in the Continuing Education Department. She would work individually with nursing students to help them study and pass their state board exam. She also worked for 63 years as a registered nurse in many different locations. She was a hospice nurse for her daughter, her husband and two of her sisters in her home, caring for them in their end of life. Letha was also a certified sign language interpreter. She was a wonderful mother, grandmother and friend. Anyone who knew Ms. Letha loved her and knew she loved them.
Survivors include her grandchildren: Blake Torrence, Lupe Estrada, Margie Martinez, Richard Martinez, Raymond Martinez, Victor Martinez, David Martinez, David Duke III, Rita Robles, Lydia Cardenas, Daniel Duke; close friends, Sandra Henderson Temple and Bob; numerous loving great grandchildren.
