Leslie Robert Honeyman, 68, of Midland passed away on Tuesday, December 23, 2014. Memorial services will be held on Tuesday, December 30, 2014 at 2:00pm at Christ Church Midland. Les was born on January 16, 1946 in Hettinger, North Dakota to Orville and Marian Honeyman. He received an undergraduate degree from the University of North Dakota in Geology in 1969. He married the love of his life, LaNell Oberlander on June 12, 1969. Les began a tour of duty in Vietnam where he received the Army Commendation Medal and the Bronze Star for his service. He returned from his tour on the couple’s second wedding anniversary, and subsequently earned a Master’s Degree in Geology from the University of North Dakota in 1973. He then began a 41-year career in the oil business starting with Exxon in New Orleans, Louisiana. New Orleans was where their first son, Jeb, was born on October 29, 1973. Les and LaNell also lost their only daughter, Melanie, in New Orleans in 1976. The young family transferred to Midland, Texas in 1977 where their son, Brent Jeremy (B.J.) was born on December 21st of that year. Les loved his work, his friends, God, his church family, and his wife and sons above all else. He was a paragon of strength, a kind and compassionate friend, a respected co-worker, a dedicated churchman, and the very model of generosity. Those who became friends with Les gained a loyal and unwavering presence in their lives. Those who were lucky enough to be called his family were continuously enveloped in his loving presence that was always available. He loved his wife, his sons, his daughters-in-law and his grandchildren with a depth that will resound with them for the rest of their lives, and will echo throughout future generations who will recall with great fondness the man that was Les Honeyman. Les was preceded in death by his mother, Marian; his father, Orville; and his daughter, Melanie. He is survived by his wife, LaNell; his siblings, Lynn, Sharon, Marlys, Randy, and Jim; his sons, Jeb and BJ; his daughters-in-law Kay and Rachel; and his grandchildren, Tyler, Drew, Jack, and Lily. The family would like to express deep gratitude for the love and support of all of their friends, family, and particularly the church family at Christ Church Midland. You have made a powerful and lasting difference. Les would be honored to know that you donated to your favorite charity in his name.
