Leroy Thomas Teague, 80, of Big Spring, died on Saturday, August 17, 2002, in a Lubbock hospital. Graveside funeral services will be at 10:00 AM Thursday, August 22, 2002, at Trinity Memorial Park Peace Chapel with Rev. Joel Miller, pastor of North Birdwell Lane United Methodist Church, officiating. He was born on September 14, 1921 in Wharton, Texas and married Bettye Porterfield on June 24, 1949 in Rawlings, Wyoming. Leroy came to Big Spring in 1961 from Lamesa. He had worked in maintenance and repair at the VAMC, retiring in 1980 after 30 years, and was the recipient of numerous awards. Leroy served in Europe and Japan during World War II in the United States Army. He was a life member of American Legion Post 506. Survivors include his wife, Bettye Teague of Big Spring; three daughters and sons-in-law, Denice and Charles Smith of Troy, Missouri, Angie and Ernest Phillips of Fairfield, California, and Gala and Jimmy Maley of Mesquite; one sister, Pearline Brown of Globe, Arizona; and four grandchildren, Flynn Smith, Teagan Smith, Cherith Maley and Nathanael Maley. He was preceded in death by three brothers and two sisters. The family will receive friends from 6:30 PM to 8:00 PM Wednesday at the funeral home.
