Leroy C. Perry, 88, of Big Spring, died on Wednesday, May 12, 2010, in a local hospital. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM, Saturday, May 15, 2010 at Mt. Bethel Baptist Church with Rev. William Vaughn, pastor, officiating. Interment will follow at Mt. Olive Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 6 PM to 7 PM, Friday, May 14, 2010, at the funeral homeHe was born on January 6, 1922, in Alma, Arkansas. He married Ryanna Smith on June 4, 1950 in Fort Smith, Arkansas and she preceded him in death on March 20, 1975. He then married Johnnie Brown on February 23, 1993 in Big Spring and she preceded him in death on November 11, 2009.Leroy came to Big Spring in 1951. He had worked in civil service at Webb Air Force Base and was foreman over the aircraft tower and wheel shop for 21 years before retiring. He then worked for Halliburton for a number of years and then worked at the Big Spring State Hospital, retiring after 10 years. Leroy was instrumental in helping the Northside community get their streets paved and received two awards from Keep Big Spring Beautiful for his yard. He was a member of Mt. Bethel Baptist Church where he served as treasurer and secretary for 55 years, served as a deacon for 35 years and was Chairman of the Trustee Board for many years. He was a member of the NAACP.Leroy served in the United States Army during World War II in the European Theatre.Survivors include his son, Kenneth Perry of San Antonio; two grandsons, Brenton Perry of San Antonio and Chase Hearne of Houston; one brother, Billy Perry of Van Buren, Arkansas; two sisters, Inola Perry of Van Buren, Arkansas and Susie Snell of Tulsa, Oklahoma; a special niece, Anna Green of Big Spring; a special friend, Glenn Person of Big Spring and numerous nieces and nephews. He was also preceded in death by three brothers, Joe Perry, O.C. Perry and Clyde Perry and two sisters, Okie Mae Mahone and Iguster Perry.
