Leo Proctor of Midland passed away on December 9, 2023. A memorial service will begin Thursday, December 14, 2023 at 2:00PM at Crestview Baptist Church Youth Sanctuary.
Leo was born on September 24, 1944, in Brownfield, Texas to Leon and Nellie Proctor, moving to Midland in 1953.
Leo attended Lee High School and learned the skill of wood crafting, designing chest/trunks and shelving and later cabinets. He was also introduced to tennis which sparked the beginning of a lifelong enjoyment of the game. He graduated from Lee High School in 1963 and then attended South Plaines College, for 2 years, majoring in electrical engineering, and where he continued to follow his love of tennis and fast cars. He later attended Texas Tech University before returning to Midland and marrying Juanita White in October 1966. He began woodworking, construction and building homes with his father-in-law which followed him throughout his career. In 1997, he and his teammates won the Sr. Texas National Men’s Tennis Championship; he was 61 years old and rumored to be as skilled as he was when winning college tennis tournaments. Over the last several years his greatest hobby was collecting football helmets, teams and players and gaining their signatures. He LOVED when someone bet him that he couldn’t find their favorite player and when he did, he was most likely giving you your special helmet. His greatest love and where he spent most of his thoughts were on Jesus. He is one of the oldest charter members of Crestview Baptist Church.
He is survived by his daughter, Brandye Norman and husband Richard Norman, grandson Cameron Tucker and wife Brytny, Cole Norman and his wife Taylor, and Marshall Proctor; granddaughters Amber Grissom, Ashley Irons and husband Jordan and Alli Shirley and her husband Mark, along with several great grandchildren.
Leo is preceded in death by his son, Carlton Proctor and Leo’s sister, Nellene Talley.
