Leland Wallace, 85, of the Morgan Community in Howard County, died on Wednesday, November 15, 2006, in a local hospital. Graveside funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, November 18, 2006, at Trinity Memorial Park Peace Chapel with Rev. Donita Lea, pastor of First United Methodist Church of Coahoma, officiating.The family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m.to 7:00 p.m. Friday at the funeral home. Leland was born on April 26, 1921, in Howard County to Dock and Nettie Wallace. He married Gerald Marie Buchanan on April 14, 1940, in Big Spring. She preceded him in death on November 12, 2005. He was also preceded in death by one brother, Guy Wallace and two sisters, Lois Barbee and Edith Haney. Leland was a rancher all of his life, and he and his wife raised registered Herefords of the Anxiety 4th line that were sold all over the United States. He was a member of the American Hereford Association and served as president of the Texas Hereford Association and the South Plains Anxiety 4th Association. Leland received numerous awards over the years for his outstanding livestock and cutting horse competitions. He was a long-time member of the board of directors of the Big Spring Cowboy Reunion and Rodeo. In 1999 he was named the Ag Producer of the Year for Howard County. Leland was also well known for sharing rain rocks? with anyone he met. Survivors include two nieces, Marie Ervin of Georgetown and Glenda Smith of Raywood and a nephew, Robert Haney of Big Spring. The family suggests memorials be made to the First United Methodist Church of Coahoma, P. O.
