Lela Lois Clay, 96, of Big Spring, died on Wednesday, April 25, 2007, at Parkview Nursing Home. Funeral services will be held at 3:00 PM Saturday, April 28, 2007 at the Nalley-Pickle & Welch Rosewood Chapel with Elder George Johnson of Lubbock Primitive Baptist Church and Elder James Taylor of the Philadelphia Primitive Baptist Church of Big Spring, officiating. Interment will follow at Trinity Memorial Park Peace Chapel.The family will receive friends Friday, from 6:00 PM – 7:30 PM at the funeral home.She was born on August 18, 1910, in Falls County, Texas and married John Gilbert "Dick" Clay on December 9, 1929 in Vealmoor, Texas. He preceded her in death on March 31, 1996.Lela had lived in Big Spring and surrounding areas since the late 1920's. She enjoyed playing forkel (greedy), 42, and crocheting. Lela had made afghans for all of the family members. She dearly loved her church and her family. Lela made wonderful memories for the family with her sugar cookies, biscuits, fried chicken, homemade ice cream and creative Easter egg hunts.She had been a member of the Philadelphia Primitive Baptist Church since 1974.Survivors include one daughter, Helen Metcalf of Coahoma; two sisters-in-law, Ruth Williams of Kosse, and Myrtle Williams of Ft. Worth; four grandchildren, John Wayne Metcalf and wife, Ginger, Kim Martin and husband, Danny, and Roy Lee Metcalf all of Coahoma, and Jesse Metcalf and wife, Lori of Big Spring; twelve great grandchildren, Jennifer Chandler and husband, Michael, Morgan Metcalf, McKenzi Metcalf, Ginni Metcalf Smith and husband, Vance, Jesse Lee Metcalf III, Andy Metcalf, and McKaylee Metcalf, all of Big Spring, Ashley Martin, Shayla Martin, Brylee Martin, and Joshua Metcalf, all of Coahoma, and Tuff Metcalf of Big Lake; four great-great grandchildren, Trenton Crenshaw, Annie Chandler, Braxton Chandler, and Delaney Jo Chandler all of Big Spring; and numerous nieces and nephews. She was also preceded in death by her parents, one son-in-law, Jesse Lee Metcalf, Sr., one great grandson, Lance Corporal Chad Metcalf, four brothers, and two sisters.The family suggests memorials be made to the Philadelphia Primitive Baptist Church, 201 E. 24th Street, Big Spring, Texas 79720.Arrangements under the direction of Nalley-Pickle & Welch Funeral Home & Crematory of Big Spring.
