Leah Rochelle Dennis Spears was born on October 24, 1956, in Lamesa, TX. She passed away from this world in Midland, TX, and entered the next on November 27, 2012. Leah is survived by her daughter, Kelsey Le'ann Spears Seger, son-in-law Andy Seger and her granddaughter Mary Evangeline \Evie\ Seger of Lubbock, TX. She is also survived by her mother, Lola Faye Madison Dennis of Lamesa, TX, her sister and brother-in-law, Nita and Steve Dopson of Lamesa, TX, and their daughter Heather Dopson of Tempe, AZ, her sister, Sheila Bennett of Welch, TX, and her children, Chandra and Chris Cody of Sheridan, WY, and Brant Bennett of Houston, TX. She is also survived by her loyal and loving dog, Ruby. Leah is preceded in death by her father, Juttie Wayne Dennis, who eagerly awaited her arrival along with countless other family and friends in Heaven. Leah attended high school at Klondike High School with many friends and played basketball as a guard. Together, their team went to the state championship level all four years and won with many thanks to Leahs tough-as-nails attitude and brightly colored fingernails. She was highly decorated for her efforts on the basketball court and remained friends with her teammates for many years. Leah's independent streak continued as she pursued accounting classes during the night at Midland College while also providing for her and her daughter by working in the challenging oil & gas industry for a number of colorful operators. She survived being a single-parent in Midland in the 1980's, which is an accomplishment in and of itself. Indeed, each occupation gave her the skills and opportunity to shine as a bright and intelligent business woman. She worked her way from one-girl operated offices to helping design oil & gas accounting software and selling said software in the very industry where she evolved. She gained as many friends as she did clients along the way, and was blessed by the kindred souls she met in the journey. Leah's creative efforts included her love of calligraphy, roses, cooking and bar-b-que, and later moved into the realm of photography where she traveled the world to pursue this passion. Leah was an amazing friend, daughter, sister, mother, and grandmother. She prided herself on her ability to handle any situation, straight-forward manner of speaking, and inability to stand for any injustice or stupidity. Her service will be held at Nalley-Pickle & Welch Chapel in Midland, TX, on December 3rd at 1pm. Attendees are encouraged to dress in casual and colorful attire to celebrate Leah's life. In lieu of flowers, and in the knowledge of her great love of animals, Leah's wishes are for donations to be sent to the Midland Humane Coalition, PO Box 4040, Midland, TX, 79704.Arrangements are under the direction of Nalley-Pickle & Welch Funeral Home & Crematory of Midland.
