Laura Armistead Riggs, 78, of Midland, died on Friday, July 29, 2005, at the Hospice Inpatient Unit at Midland Memorial Hospital. Funeral services will be held at 3:00 PM Sunday, July 31, 2005 at the Chapel at Manor Park in Midland with Rev. Steve Schorr , pastor of First Presbyterian Church, officiating. Graveside services will be at 2:00 P.M., Monday August 1, 2005, at Carlsbad Cemetery in Carlsbad, New Mexico.She was born on July 7, 1927, on the Scott Ranch in Callahan County, Texas to Mabin W. and Georgiann Armistead. She was raised in Fort Stockton where she graduated from Fort Stockon High School in 1944. She married John R. (Bob) Riggs in 1949 and moved to Carlsbad, New Mexico where they raised two daughters, Jo Annice and Patricia. While living there she was active in Hillcrest Baptist Church. Mrs Riggs was a Records Transcriber at (then) at Carlsbad Memorial Hospital and also worked for Dr. M.K. Minor. Laura loved the arts and was active in Carlsbad arts association and was a Past Matron of Chapter #54 Order of the Eastern Star. She loved volunteering in various organizations and remained so as long as possible. She moved to Midland in 1997 and became active in First Prebyterian church.Survivors include two daughters, Jo Annice Hill, Pat Grimes Bason; three sisters, Bonnie Van Husen, Joyce Schroeder, and Nancy Baker; one brother, John Armistead; three grandsons, Colin Grimes, John Tatum, Adam Tatum, four great grandsons, one great granddaughter, and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, John R. (Bob) Riggs; a brother, Mabin W. Armistead Jr; and one grandson, Chris Grimes.
