Larry McCampbell, 30, of Stanton, died on Monday, July 21, 2008, near San Angelo, Texas. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM Friday, July 25, 2008 at the Belvue Church Of Christ Stanton with Bill Welsh minister, officiating. Interment will follow at Evergreen Cemetery Stanton. He was born on March 3, 1978, in Midland, Texas to Dennis and Pam McCampbell.Larry was a 1997 graduate of Stanton High School. He attended Midland College obtaining a Level 3 Welding Certification. He was a member of the Greenwood Volunteer Fire Department. He was currently working for Nite Lite, a highway paint striping company. He was a member of the Church Of Christ. Survivors include parents, Dennis and Pam McCampbell of Stanton; sister and brother-in-law, Laura and Edward Alberts also of Stanton; grandparents, June and Casey Shackelford of Gun Barrel City; aunts and uncles, Robbie and Michael Curry, Nina and Dan Lassiter, Iris and Mike Folger, and Lanetta and Paul Cooper; numerous cousins and many friends. He was preceded in death by his grandfather, Chester McCampbell and grandparents, Bob and Joni Lu Hazlewood. The family suggests memorials be made to the Martin County Championship Club, P.O. Box 198, Stanton, Texas 79782 or to the Greenwood Volunteer Fire Department, 2900 South County Road 1083, Midland, Texas 79706 or to a charity of choice. I grew up showing with Larry in Martin County. Larry is an individual that will be forever in mind as one who proved that hard work and dedication were tools that can help you be successful in whatever you do. Today I am a County Extension Agent and try to instill those values in to youth that Larry exuded.

I had the privilege of teaching Larry in high school. I remember him as a hard worker and a very honest, decent person. He was so friendly to everyone he came in contact with. He was polite and respectful also. God Bless You Larry and my condolences to your family.

Dear Friends, As neighbors of the Curry's we met Larry at various family functions and always enjoyed the time we spent with him. Even though we had not seen him for quite some time he left a lasting impression with his sense of humor and quick smile. Our thoughts and prayers are with you at this difficult time. I went to H.S. with Dennis and did not have the privilege of knowing your son. I was looking at the obits today for the visitation tonight of a friend when I ran across your sons. LARRY GREW UP IN THE MARTIN CO. STOCK SHOW AND LOVED SHOWING PIGS AND WAS ONE OF THE HARDEST WORKING YOUNG MEN AROUND,MUCH OF THE SUCESS OF OUR STOCK SHOW CAME FROM HIS ALWAYS BEEING THERE TO HELP. THAT IS WHY HE WAS AWARDED OUR HIGHEST AWARDTHE TOP HAND AWARD NOT ONCE BUT TWO TIMES .LARRY WILL BE GREATLY MISSED IN JANUARY. RANDY

Being born and raised in Stanton, I had the privilege of knowing Larry and growing up with him since Kindergarten (25 years ago!!). Looking back on my thoughts of him throughout the years I remember Larry as always being a gentle, kind, genuine soul. His heart was made of gold, and he was a hard working man. He worked hard everyday of his life to overcome whatever obstacles life threw his way. Last summer, I had the privilege of visiting with Larry at our ten year class reunion... I was glad to find we picked up conversation right away, as if ten years had never passed. Since then, there hasn't been a time go by that he hasn't waved if we've crossed each others paths or spoke to me if he was near. Here on Earth it is impossible to understand why the Lord took such a GOOD one Home on Monday afternoon and that is something we will never comprehend. However, we must have comfort in knowing that someday we will see Larry again. May God comfort and be with each of you Dennis, Pam, & Laura (and family) during this tragic time. I grew up with Laura so Larry was always around. He was so nice to us all and was always there to help if anything needed to be done. Every time I saw him he'd hug me and ask how I was doing and what I was up to. He genuinely cared for people and loved his family so much. He will be missed. We have fought side-by-side with Larry on many fires these past months. He never held back in his line of duty and expressed his willingness to go above and beyond. He has proven himself a true and honorable man. His memory will live on in our hearts. It was OUR pleasure to serve with Larry on the Greenwood Volunteer Fire Department.

WE WOULD TO SAY TO THE FAMILY THAT LARRY WILL TRUELY BE MISSED. MY SISTER AND BROTHER-IN-LAW WILL MISS HIM SO VERY MUCH. ON MONDAY NIGHTS LARRY WOULD ALWAYS WATCH WRESLING WITH REX. I KNOW THERE WAS TIMES THAT WHEN LARRY WOULD HANG WITH MY SISTER, HE WOULD COME OVER TO MY HOUSE OR COME WITH THEM TO PICK ME UP FROM WORK. HE ALWAYS HAD SMILE ON HIS FACE. Mr and Mrs McCampbell, While learning to drive from Dennis I got a chance to meet Larry a couple of times. I was very sad to hear of his loss as he was a very nice, respectful, and hard working man.
