Larry Michael “Mike” Welch, 77, of Midland, Texas, will be lovingly remembered following his passing on June 4, 2026, in Odessa, Texas. The family invites friends to join them for a memorial service on Friday, June 12, 2026, at 1:00 PM at The Branch at npw—where we will celebrate a life full of passion, integrity, and unwavering commitment to his family.
Mike was born on November 6, 1948, in Big Spring, Texas, to the cherished parents, Mary Frances Howard and L.V. Welch. A dedicated Navy veteran, Mike proudly served our nation with honor during the Vietnam War, completing three tours as a medic. The experiences he gained during those formative years instilled in him a lifelong commitment to leadership and integrity, distinguishing him as a person of great character.
After returning home from his service, Mike channeled his entrepreneurial spirit into building a meaningful legacy in the private sector. His impressive journey included work at Harris Rat Hole and Auger Air, but it was here in New Mexico that he truly flourished—through his founding of Big Guns Rat Hole and Foundation Drilling in Hobbs, NM, Mike established a thriving business that would leave an indelible mark on those around him.
Mike’s legacy of love and resilience lives on through his devoted wife, Rebecca (Bekki) Welch; his children, Sabrina Amanda Rees and husband Brian; and stepchildren, Blake Price and wife Kim. He was a proud grandfather to Izzy Guzman Harrison Rees and Kaelin Rees as well as step-grandchildren Kaylee Price, Hayleigh Price, Michael Price, Crystal Armijo, Kylie Armijo, and Alexis Armijo, all of whom carried a special place in his heart.
Preceding him in death were his beloved parents, brothers Terry Welch and Jerry Welch, nephew L.V. Welch, and Scotty Welch, as well as stepson Chuck Price and grandson Joel Gann. These cherished memories reflect the immense love and bond that Mike shared with his family.
As we gather in Mike’s honor, we will celebrate a life well-lived, a spirit that touched many, and a legacy that will endure in the hearts of those who knew him. Join us in remembering a remarkable man who approached life with an open heart and an unwavering commitment to those he loved.
