Larry Dean Dearen, \Coach Larry\, went to be with the Lord, Saturday, May 30, 2015, following a long fight with illnesses. He was born February 7, 1953 in Colorado City, Texas.A memorial service will be held at Trinity Baptist Church in Big Spring, Texas, Wednesday, June 3, 2015 at 10:00 AM.Larry is survived by a sister, Connie Dearen Weddel of Bedford; a brother, Dee Dearen and wife, Sharyn of Dripping Springs; his nieces and nephews, their spouses and children, Tammy and Ken Dabney, Dillon, Savannah and Mason Dabney of Arlington, Steven and Sarah Dearen, Iris, Reese, Josie and Toby of Dripping Springs, and Andrea and Justin Davidson, Hayes and Lyle of San Francisco, California. He has extended family members in Nebraska, Minnesota, California, Colorado, Oregon, and Texas.He was preceded to heaven by his beloved parents, Toby and Virginia Dearen of Colorado City; grandparents, and other loved family members.After graduating from Colorado City High School, Larry received his undergraduate Bachelor of Science degree from Texas Tech University. He earned his Master's degree in Education from Sul Ross State University.He attended the All-School Administration Principal program at Tarleton State University.He participated in world-class athletics events with Loyola University of Montreal, Canada. At their invitation, Larry coached for the USA team among other teams from Great Britain, Canada, France, and the former Soviet Union (Russia).Being an educator and coaching athletics were his passions. Larry's extensive athletics and teaching career began with Motley County ISD at Matador, Texas. His career path also led him to Pampa, Corsicana, Temple, and Georgetown before retiring and ending his career with the Big Spring ISD.Coach Larry came to BSISD in July 2005. He served as the high school defensive line coach and also coached track. After retirement, he remained connected to BSISD as a substitute teacher and attended athletic events. He was happy to be on the Steer gridiron sidelines. His students meant a great deal to him. He knew grades were important, but preparing students for successfully achieving life skills was also a priority. He wanted to make a difference in their lives.Larry was a member of Trinity Baptist Church in Big Spring, and his faith in God gave him strength.His family would like to express their deep appreciation to Larry's entire medical team, the Big Spring ISD, his Trinity Baptist Church family, Home Hospice caregivers, the Big Spring Center for Skilled Care, his many dear friends, and a host of others reaching out with kindness and love.In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Trinity Baptist Church, the Big Spring ISD High School Athletic Department, Home Hospice and the Big Spring Center for Skilled Care.He fought the good fight and finished his life race well.\Arrangements under the direction of Nalley-Pickle & Welch Funeral Home & Crematory of Big Spring.
