Kevin Lane

Kevin Harold Lane, of Midland, died July 6, 2005, at the Hospice Midland inpatient unit of Midland Memorial Hospital, following a valiant battle with cancer.Following a private burial service, a memorial service will be held at First Presbyterian Church of Midland at 4:00 p.m., Saturday, July 9.Kevin was born in Kermit, Texas, on April 27, 1962, to Harold Duane Lane and Freida Harrington Lane. He grew up in Odessa, Texas, graduating from Permian High School in 1980. He later graduated from Hardin-Simmons University in Abilene, Texas, with a degree in music education.On June 1, 1985, Kevin married Lu Ann Liles of Irving, Texas, and they lived in Abilene, Texas until 1987, when they moved to Amarillo, Texas. During his time in Amarillo, Kevin was choral director at Sam Houston Jr. High, Canyon High School, and Boys Ranch, respectively. He was also choral director at First Presbyterian Church in Canyon, Texas, for several years.In 1996, Kevin and Lu Ann moved their family to Midland, where Kevin became choral director at Midland High School and at Westminster Presbyterian Church, Odessa. Kevin continued working, making music, and bringing joy to his family and friends throughout his eighteen-month cancer journey.Kevin was preceded in death by paternal grandparents, Charlie and June Lane, maternal grandfather, Russell Harrington, and brother, Robert Timothy Lane.Kevin's spirit will continue on in the lives of his wife, Lu Ann, son, Ryan, and daughter, Morgan, of Midland; parents, Harold and Freida Lane, of Odessa; brother, Charles and wife, Leigh Ann, and their children, Caitlin, Allison, and Averie, of Grand Prairie, Texas; brother, Kent, of Austin, Texas; and grandmother, Grace Harrington, of Clovis, NM, as well as his extended family of relatives, friends, colleagues, and students whose lives he touched.Memorials may be made to Hospice Midland, Midland High School Choir Boosters, or a charity of your choice.Arrangements under the direction of Nalley-Pickle & Welch Funeral Home and Crematory of Midland.
