Matt Aland left a message on May 19, 2009:
Dear Hendricks family, I never met any of you, but I'm sure you'd remember me if you saw me. I met Kerry at Dove Tree during a visit to my mom while she was there. She told me that two former Marines, Kerry and Tim wanted to talk to me about the Corps. I already knew who Tim was, but I had never met Kerry before then. Tim, I think was still on Pass, so it was just me and Kerry for about 5-10 minutes. So we went outside so he could dip and I could smoke and he told me about his time in the Marines, how that affected his life, and where he was at now in his life briefly, then Tim came out and we all talked about it together. Tim said he never regrets anything he did in the Marines, but would have done things different and Kerry agreed. We talked for a couple more minutes, and then we were forced to go out to the front because Alicia (hope that's how you spell her name) was burning one of her steps. That was pretty much the most that Kerry and I had ever talked, and in total, I only takled with him and whatnot about 3 or 4 times, but those 3 or 4 times, he had this pride, or bounce in him that couldn't be beat. The last time, he wished me luck in the Marines and he hoped that my mom stayed well and all that jazz. I realize this whole thing may sound like I'm trying to make this all about me, but that's the last thing on my mind. What I'm trying to say is that Kerry was a great man in my eyes, and everyone elses whose sight he happened to walk into. My thoughts and prayers are with your whole family, and may God's light shine on Kerry like Kerry's light shined on us. Oh yeah, sorry this is so long. I wanted to say something at the funeral, but I didn't really get the chance to, so now you've got my life's story.
