Kenny Scott, age 58, passed away this past Sunday around 2:42 A.M. after an eleven year battle with cancer. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Nov. 5, at College Baptist Church, Big Spring with Bro. Ken McMeans and Bro. Jim Wilkerson officiating. Graveside service will follow at Trinity Memorial Park, Big Spring. The family will receive friends from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 4, 2014, at the Nalley-Pickle & Welch Funeral Home.Kenny was born on December 3, 1955 in Big Spring to Billy and Patsy Scott. He was the fourth child born to this family and was also the fourth son. He took his final breath on Nov. 2, 2014 at his home, surrounded by his immediate family. He was a lifelong resident of Big Spring.Kenny attended Boydston Elementary School, Runnels Junior High, and graduated in 1974 from Big Spring High School where he was a two-year member of the renowned high school choir there: The Meistersingers. He also played Lieutenant Cable in his senior year as a part of the choir’s production of South Pacific. As a part of that choir, Kenny and his fellow choir members spent two weeks in Europe during the summer of 1973 as a part of the Festival of Three Cities choir tour. The three cities were Vienna, Budapest, and Prague. After graduating from high school, he attended one year at the then Howard County Jr. College.Kenny enjoyed working and began his employment in his early teen years as a carrier for the Big Spring Herald. He would later on be employed part-time at the YMCA and had a job at the local Coca-Cola Bottling Plant. The vast majority of his career, thirty-five years, would be spent with the City of Big Spring Water and Waste Water Plant. He was able to become the manager and retired a few years ago.Kenny Scott had two great loves: his family and the Lord Jesus Christ. He met Helen Ray through his active participation in the youth group of Crestview Baptist Church. They got married on June 14, 1976. God would bless them with two wonderful daughters: Shandria in 1981 and Stefani in 1986. Kenny and Helen enjoyed 38 years of marriage. As previously mentioned, his other great love was Jesus. At a young age, Kenny made a commitment of his life to Jesus. Once that commitment was made, he never looked back. All the days of his life were spent as a faithful servant of the Lord he loved so much. His service began as a young teenager as he sang with his Uncle Bobby, his brother, David, and his sister, Debi, in a gospel quartet. Many of the songs they sang were acapella. A second singing group would form a few years later in which Kenny sang tenor. Both of these groups went on to record two albums. They sang in many churches in Big Spring and this area. That was just the beginning of Kenny’s service to the Lord. He was ordained as a deacon at Crestview Baptist Church and later on, when he and Helen became a member of College Baptist Church, he became a Sunday School teacher-a ministry he dearly loved and was able to do for many years. Through his ministry and life, Kenny touched many people and was able to share the love of Jesus Christ in all he did.His biggest battle though would be with cancer-the cancer that finally took his life. Through over a decade of dealing with this disease, Kenny and his family endured all of the ups and downs of going through cancer treatments. Conventional treatments had no effect on his cancer and so he agreed to go through experimental drug treatments through his ordeal. Some of them were more effective than others but no doubt much was learned in these efforts for the future treatments of cancer. Almost 180 trips were made to the Cancer Therapy and Research Center in San Antonio where great and long-lasting friendships were built with doctors, nurses, and fellow cancer patients. Kenny had several surgeries but through all of his struggles, he never lost his faith in God.The last week of Kenny’s life was spent at his home in bed due to the effects of his disease. He was continually surrounded by his family, his friends, and his church family. Much love was shown to him and his family; but more than that, they demonstrated a great love for all who came and displayed a strong faith and strength in the Lord. They had built their life on the principles of the Word of God and the person of Jesus Christ and He proved Himself over and over again to be faithful to them. Even in the face of death, the Lord Jesus Christ was exalted by Kenny and his family.Kenny is survived by his wife, Helen Scott; two daughters, Shandria Scott and Stefani Scott all Big Spring; his mother, Patsy Scott of Big Spring; three brothers, Billy Scott, Jr. and wife, Cheryl Ann of San Antonio, David Scott and wife, Debbie of Aledo, and Jamie Scott and wife, Janet of Big Spring; and one sister, Debi Newell of Big Spring and many loving nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his father, Billy Neal Scott, Sr., and one brother, Ronnie Scott. The family suggests memorials be made to the Gideons International, Big Spring Camp #U42060, PO Box 133, Big Spring, TX 79721-0133 or College Baptist Church, 1105 Birdwell Lane, Big Spring, Texas 79720.Arrangements under the direction of Nalley-Pickle & Welch Funeral Home & Crematory of Big Spring.
