Keith McCall Skaar (January 28, 1962 – March 31, 2026)
Keith McCall Skaar, 64, of Midland, Texas, passed away on March 31, 2026, after a courageous battle with thymic carcinoma. A service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, April 9, at First Baptist Church of Midland.
Keith was born in Westwood, New Jersey, to Irving William Skaar and Patsy Florence McCall. The second of four children, he spent his early years moving with his family before they settled in Kingwood, Texas, where he graduated from Humble High School in 1980. He went on to attend Baylor University, earning a B.S. in Petroleum Geology in 1984.
After college, Keith pursued his passion for the oil industry and moved to Midland. He founded Skaar Oil and Gas in 1992 and later served as Vice President of Exploration at Element Petroleum. In 2016, he launched Augustin Exploration, continuing to work on projects he loved. Keith was widely respected for his ability to identify new opportunities and expand development across the Basin, earning recognition throughout his career.
While he was dedicated to his profession, Keith’s deepest commitments were to his faith and his family. A lifelong believer, he was an active member of First Baptist Church of Midland, where he served as a trustee, deacon, teacher, and leader in missions. He also supported numerous Christian ministries, educational institutions, and mission efforts both locally and abroad.
Keith married the love of his life, Kari Welker, on December 31, 2005. Together they built a life centered on faith, family, and service, raising their two children, Nathan and Maggie, who were his greatest joy. He loved attending their activities, traveling with family, and making lasting memories. He was also an avid golfer and active in his community.
During these past two years, Keith endured multiple treatments, all the while having his faith confidently in the promise of God that this earthly life is not the end. In his own words, he wrote in his testimony, “If you are reading this, I have completed the pilgrimage through this world that our Lord set out for me and have passed on to my Home, fulfilling the purpose of my creation: having an eternal fellowship with my Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.”
He is preceded in death by his parents, Irv and Patsy Skaar. He is survived by his wife, Kari; his children, Nathan and Maggie; his brother, Bill (Pamela); his sisters, Karen Hearn (Jay) and Becky Arden (Dave); his in-laws, Joe and Ruth Welker; his sister-in-law, Amy Brand (Cory); and many nieces, nephews, extended family members, and friends.
The family would like to express appreciation for the love and care shown by many, including First Baptist Church Midland, Doctors and Staff at Texas Oncology Midland, MD Anderson, and Hospice of Midland. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to the Missions Ministry of First Baptist Church Midland, Hope House of Midland, and Hospice of Midland.
