Kathleen Lewis passed away peacefully January 11, 2013 at the age of 91. She was born in Colorado City, TX to JD and Anna McCreless and shortly after moved to Martin County. She studied at Courtney School and graduated from Texas Technological College in 1941. While working in Amarillo after college she met her husband of 51 years RS Lewis.They continued to farm the homestead of her father J.D. McCreless for many years. After raising their sons James and Charles Kathleen and RS enjoyed travel to many countries in Africa, Europe and the far East. Morethan anything Kathleen was a citizen of Martin County serving in the Sheriffs Department, as County Treasurer, treasurer of the Evergreen Cemetery and baby sitter to generations in the the nursery at the First Baptist Church where she was a longtime member. Later in life Kathleen operated the local flower and gift shop serving as a \Grandmother\ to downtown Stanton for many years.She is survived by her son,James Lewis and his wife, Rosalind of Midland, TX, son Charles Lewis of Stanton, TX, grandchildren Lex Lewis of Fort Worth, TX, Melissa Leiker of Lubbock, TX, Sharon Reid of Hill Air Force Base, UT, and Lea Ann Irvin of Midland,TX and several great grandchildren.She was proceeded in death by her Father J.D. McCreless, Mother Anna McCreless, brothers Arnold and JD Jr. both who passed in early life and her husband RS Lewis. She was also proceed in death by her beloved grandson Pfc. Clayton W. Henson who was killed in action in Southern Iraq in 2004.Gilbreathfuneral home in Stanton will handle the arrangements and funeral services will be held at The First Baptist Church of Stanton at 1:30 pm on Tuesday, January 15, 2013 with Rev. David Harp officiating and Phil Stroud assisting. Internment to follow at Evergreen Cemetery.Pall bearers will be Johnny Louder, Steve Herm, Bud Glaspie, David Anderson, Darrell Bradshaw, Bill Swink.The family would like thank the staff at Legacy Ranch Alzheimer's Facility in Midland for the wonderful care they provided to Kathleen in her final year.In lieu of flowers please make donations to the Evergreen Cemetery Association, PO Box 224 Stanton, TX 79782.Arrangements under the direction of Gilbreath Funeral Home of Stanton.
