Judy Sue Smith Vincent, age 78, passed away on April 15, 2026, surrounded by her family. The world has lost a very special person; and heaven has gained a wonderful, bright soul.
Judy was born in Borger, Texas, on November 3, 1947, to Rev. Herbert E. Smith and Peggy Tinnin Smith, both of whom preceded her in death. After a childhood in Texas, the family moved to Hobbs, New Mexico, where Judy graduated from Hobbs High School in 1966.
After high school, she started college while still in Hobbs at New Mexico Junior College. Throughout her young adult life, she was full of energy and brought life and light to everything she endeavored and every event she attended. Her infectious smile and laugh would light up every room. Judy was a member of the NMJC cheer squad/cheerleading team when she met a basketball player, Bobby Vincent. They married on June 21, 1968, and moved to Lubbock, Texas, where Bobby graduated from Texas Tech University. Judy and Bobby have two children; son John Vincent and wife Shelley, children Brandy, Haden, Zachary, and Sydney; daughter Tracy Builta and husband Tony, children Emmi and Kaleigh, all who live in Midland. Judy’s extended family includes Angie Marlow and daughter Lexie, along with five great-grandchildren, Mackenzie, Jaxson, Madden, Brooks, and Bridger. Judy was blessed to have all of her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren living near her in Midland. Additional survivors are her two younger sisters, Crystal L. Kamlowsky and Rhonda J. Smith. She also leaves behind, in the care of her husband, her beloved dog Cooper.
Judy spent her life dedicated to her family, friends, and church. She never met a stranger and would do anything for anyone who needed help. She was a devoted disciple of Christ and embraced her church family and friends. She will be missed by so many in this life, but we are so thankful to know her suffering is over and she is in Heaven, together with other family souls.
A Celebration of Life service for Judy will be held on May 2, 2026 at 3:00 o’clock in the afternoon at Kelview Heights Baptist Church, 402 West Scharbauer Drive in Midland, Texas.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial donations be made to either the Rheumatology Research Foundation at rheumresearch.org or the Parkinson’s Foundation at parkinson.org.
