Juanita Valdez Arredondo, 88, of Pecos was called home by our Lord on November 12, 2023. Juanita was born on August 4, 1935, in Sanderson, Texas to Genaro and Romana Valdez, who instilled in her a strong Catholic faith from an early age. She graduated from Sanderson High School and attended college at Odessa College and Sul Ross State University. Juanita married the love of her life, Felipe Arredondo, on September 23, 1956, and they were happily married for 58 years. She found a purpose in educating children in their faith through religious education classes, as well as assisting children at Bessie Haynes Elementary and Austin Elementary in Pecos, Texas, where she worked for 20 years. She was an avid sports fan and never missed the chance to watch a football or baseball game. Above all, Juanita loved spending time with her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren who will always hold her in their hearts.
Juantia is preceded in death by her parents, Genaro and Romana Valdez, husband Felipe Arredondo, sister Malena Cazares, and brother Genaro Valdez.
She is survived by six loving children, Gilbert Arredondo of Austin, TX, Lydia Deets of Oceanside, CA, Jaime Arredondo of Pecos, TX, Hilda Garibay of San Angelo, TX, David Arredondo of Benbrook, TX, and Cristina Lerma of Midland, TX; brother Henry Valdez of San Antonio, TX; sisters Petra Ramirez of Lake Worth, TX, Gigi Mendez and Marta Valdez of Austin, TX; grandchildren Melissa Arredondo, Philip Arredondo, Bianca Arredondo, Bryan Arredondo, Camila Strickland, Nicolas Lerma, Anthony Garibay, Carisa Rodriguez, and Elizabeth Garibay; and great-grandchildren Marcos Arredondo, Harlei Lerma, Miles Velasquez, and Reina Strickland.
A rosary will be held at 1:00pm on Wednesday, November 15 at Saint James Catholic Church in Sanderson, Texas, Mass at 2:00pm, and burial to follow at Santa Rita Cemetery.
