Juanita O’Neil Faubion “Nita” Smith 93 of Midland Texas woke up in the arms of Jesus on August 6, 2022. A visitation will begin on Tuesday, August 9, 2022, at 6pm at Nalley-Pickle and Welch Funeral Home and Crematory. Services will be at 10 am on Wednesday, August 10, 2022, at Nalley-Pickle and Welch Funeral Home with interment following at Resthaven Cemetery.
Nita was born September 1, 1928, in Dawson County Texas, to Robert and Leta O’Neil. The family moved to Midland when Nita was a teenager. She married Charlie Faubion on May 19, 1945. They had one son, Lonny. Nita lived in Midland most of her life except for a few years in McCamey, Texas and Sacramento, California. She had several jobs as a bookkeeper and secretary. After Charlie retired, they moved to Abilene Texas and lived there until his death in 1994. Nita moved back to Midland and worked at O’Neil’s and Bowen’s Grocery stores. In 2011 she married Cecil “Sonny” Smith and they enjoyed 10 ½ beautiful years together until his death in May of this year. They enjoyed attending Cotton Flat Baptist Church until the pandemic hit and their health kept them at home.
Nita is survived by her stepsons David Smith (Kelly) and Michael Smith (Jane Ann), all from Midland. Grandchildren, Stacey and Charles Faubion and great grandchildren Justin and Cody Faubion all from California. Sisters in law Shirley O’Neil, Betty O’Neil Bagwell, Betty O’Neil and Rita Hice. And numerous nephews, nieces, step-grandchildren and step-great grandchildren.
She is preceded in death by her parents, husbands and son. Also, her 6 brothers, R. L., Sonny, Hoot, Elbert, Delbert and Jimmy.
The family would like to express their gratitude towards Interim Healthcare and Focused Care Skilled Nursing Facility for taking such loving care of Nita in her last months.
