Juanita Sue Anderson Lindsey passed away in the Martin County Hospital on March 31th. She was know as simply “Babe” by her friends in Martin County and West Texas, being the youngest of the three Anderson girls, Anna Lou Robinson and Verla Doggett. Verla and Anna Lou preceded Babe in death and are now having a big visit and reunion in Heaven.Nita is survived by her husband of almost 65 years, Adrian L. (Bud) Lindsey of Stanton. She is also survived by nieces Doyla Haislip, Diana Doggett, Debra Trantham and nephews Rodney Robinson and Don Robinson.Nita and Bud were married in 1952 in Midland, Nita working at the Midland County courthouse and Bud being employed as an engineer at KCRS. They spent 40 years in Midland before moving to Stanton in 1991, living in and restoring Nita’s parents’ older home and making that their home for 25 years. Nita being very happy to spend the remainder of her life among friends, nieces and a town of great citizens in Stanton.Babe Lindsey was musically talented, unlike her husband. She was an inertial part of the Old Sorehead Band, playing the keyboard along with her sister Verla. The group, a ragtag assortment of singers, players and groupies numbering to about 35, traveling around West Texas, playing at Senior Centers and retirement centers and going to such far-off places as Big Lake, Lamesa and Del Rio. It was a fun time for all, including her husband Bud. Even though Bud has (and still has) a deaf ear for music, he was found useful as an equipment bearer, complaining every step of the way, of course. In his involvements with “the band,” Bud did learn that there “keys” and “sour notes,” and that a certain protocol should be followed on the sour note thing–the offending musician would be met with smiles, frowns or guffaws. In Midland, Nita and Bud spent many happy years involved in square dancing and made many friends as they danced programmed steps to the latest ballads. The “M-Squares” traveled around the state, dancing to various “callers.” It was one of the more pleasant times, of many, of Nita and Bud’s time together. They would have been married 65 years on May 10th.The last twenty-five years were the most pleasant and rewarding for Nita, moving back to her hometown. Early in her life she rode the school bus from her parents home about half-way between Stanton and Big spring, attending the Stanton schools from the first grade through high school. She attended briefly Howard College where the classes were held in surplus army barracks.Nita and Verla were heavily involved with “singings,” as were her father, in particular, and her parents’ friends. In their younger years, Nita and Verla traveled to the Dallas area to attend a Stamps Quartet school, singing from “shaped” notes.Funeral service for Juanita (Babe) Lindsey will be held on Monday morning, at 10 AM, April 3rd, at the First united Methodist Church in Stanton, with the reverend Charlie Stevens officiating.
