Juanita Joe Hughes

Juanita Joe Hughes, 90, lifetime resident of Knott, Texas, passed away Monday, August 24, 2026.  She will lie in state Tuesday, August 25, 2026 from 10:00 am until 9:00 pm.  Funeral services will be held at 10:00 am, Wednesday, August 26, 2026 at the Nalley-Pickle & Welch Rosewood Chapel with interment at Trinity Memorial Park.

Joe was born December 18, 1935 in Knott, Texas to parents Henry Sample and Inez Nichols Sample.  She married the love of her life Calvin Hughes at 16 years old.  Joe worked for Home Real Estate for 35 years selling her last house at 85 years old.  She loved sports and never missed her 4 grandkids games, loved watching NBA basketball games and playing dominoes.  She was a member of Knott Church of Christ.

Joe is survived by her daughter Connie Zant (David); grandchildren Wes Hughes (Hailey), Kara Crenshaw (Bucky), Hollie Epperson and Cal Zant (Davida); 10 great grandchildren and her sister Kay Long along with numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and many longtime friends.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband Calvin Hughes, her son Ricky Hughes and wife Leah and a sister Jean Parker.

Pallbearers will be Wes Hughes, Brock Hughes, Cal Zant, Cy Epperson, Bucky Crenshaw, Hudson Crenshaw and Clay Parker.
